It has been reported that taking up the art of flower arranging has a beneficial effect on the souls of Avian Flu junkies like me. Last week I went to a class run by my local 'blooms commune'. We did pansys and lillys in baskets and vases. I enjoyed it immensely and forgot all about the bird flu and my impending death by lung collapse. I recommend it to those junkies like me that have a problem kicking the habit of worrying about the spread of avian flu over the entire globe.

I was pleasantly surprised that flower arranging was open to all, including those minorites hitherto excluded from enjoying themselves such as TV presenters, recombinant scholars and WHO officials. I met some new friends from all walks of life. Next week it's roses. cant wait!

It's great that you found something else to occupy your time and thoughts for a while. We all need the break. One thing about it, when we do take a break, the pending bird flu is still here waiting for us to come back and give it some attention.

Now that spring is here, I plan on spending a lot of time outside with my flower beds and my vegetable garden. I love planting things and watching them grow. It's good to just let the mind rest for a while, otherwise you just end up burned out on it.
Don't put off tomorrow what you can PREP today

That sounds very nice. Good for you!

Actually, it might be dumb but I'm thinking of this prep as a sort of hobby. I just have a feeling that this all won't happen or won't be so deadly or they'll find a vaccine or whatever. I'm preparing anyway, of course. I'm also in Florida and we had a hurricane last year, Wilma, so no matter what all this will come in handy.

I'm learning so much from just this site and I always thought it would be fun to be one of those people who could survive, kinda like a Rambo, lol.

When people tease me about this I just tell them I could have worse hobbies. Hey what would be more helpful in an emergency, knowing how to make a solar oven or scrapbooking? LOL!  Okay, I'm doing the scrapbooking too. Kind of like your flowers.

Thanks Daydreamer and Karianne. Sounds a good idea to prep as a hobby. You wont regret the cost so much that way.

And just as a side note, some flowers are edible.  I got this list from one of my pioneer books.  Be sure however that if you are not sure of your botanical identifications, admire it, but don't eat it!!:

Flowers which can be eaten:

apple blossom, chrysanthemum, primrose, red clover, daisy, marigold, dandelion, marjoram, rose, daylily, nasturtium, calendula, elderberryflower, carnation, forget-me-nots, pansy, geranium, peony, viola, chamomile, gladiolus, pinks, violet, lavender, plum blossom, yucca, lemon blossom.

My sister has often said that the only sense of taste I have is in my mouth, so with that in mind, flower arranging is out.  However, I am exerting my creative influences on starting a fine red wine cellar with an accompanying selection of good bourbons (for medicinal purposes only, I assure you!).  I am also  reorganizing my bicycle tool box (tool have ther own beauty, you know) . . . ah, heck, we are back to prepping again.  I tried .. . Embarrassed

Jefiner, Red Wine as well. This is going to be a costly dinner if you are right on the other thread. I should keep my mouth shut.

So you lots of Califonias then?

Tools have beauty...we got lots to talk about over dinner then. Wine, Flowers and rachet wrenches.

harpmandoodle-

I recall a song

Counting flowers on the wall
it don't bother me at all
watching Mickey Mouse and Captain Kangaroo
now don' t tell me,
I 've nothing to do
