U.N. bird flu coordinator asks China to share bird flu data+ (Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)BEIJING, April 4_(Kyodo) _ China should share its bird flu fighting experience with nations that are just starting to face the disease, a World Health Organization official said Tuesday. China has shown it can vaccinate poultry, change regulations and increase surveillance to find avian influenza cases in birds and humans, said David Nabarro, U.N. system senior coordinator for bird flu. Thirty countries in Africa, Asia and Europe have reported outbreaks in poultry, double the number three months ago. China began reporting cases in late 2003 and has developed poultry vaccines proven effective in labs, WHO officials have found. China has vaccinated about 90 percent of its 14 billion poultry, according to the U.N. Food and Agricultural Organization. Chinese officials have also promised in writing to give the WHO data on its poultry outbreaks and indicated they will offer the WHO more data on mysteries surrounding a human case in Shanghai. "This is a really serious global situation, and so you won't be surprised that I come to the country that has 20 percent of world's poultry population to find out the extent to which they are ready to help the international battle to try to address the challenges posed by avian influenza," Nabarro told a press conference at the end of a 27-hour China visit. It's about time for China to 'pony up'!
This article was posted on a Convergys website. I bet they are interested in BF, especially since they outsource so much of their service to India LOL!

China will not cooperate. As they have not in the past.
The UN is just trying to put public pressure on them.with this press release.
They are hiding something and if they release thier sequences they know the world will find out.
What have they got to hide? A germ warfare experiment gone bad?

My guess is that they will do anything to keep a lid on things prior to the 2008 Olympics in China. That means billions of dollars of badly needed hard currency. Good Luck. |

I was wondering if the UN was hoping China will slip up somewhere when "sharing their bird flu experience." Also, even if they are hiding something it will get out, eventually. |

The Chinese have never thought that the truth would get out eventually,
no matter that history tells them. The government's internal
culture of secrecy and repression just doesn't believe in
daylight. There is also a different view of the role and
importance of the individual in society, which they see as more of a
hive mentality. If you lose a big chunk of the hive, it will grow
back and the society will continue. The head that sticks up gets
pounded down.

there will be no 2008 Olympics.
They might hold "the pandemic games"
events include
toss the dead chicken head. Turkey is the favorite
Strecher carry
grave digger relay
and the one everybody will be watching.
The vaccine vault.
Team riot control 100 meter
and the quarentine down hill.

yes and there will be a media black out on the event. all of Africas teams will forefit by dying on the way.
Instead of gold medals they will give out tamiflu and the latest strain vaccine.
Then after the games those who survive will not be able to go home cause they will all be placed in isolation.

how could we ever be sure that released sequences are correct and not just constructed ? We would need (parts of) the samples being sent to a control-laboratory.

BEIJING, China (UPI) -- U.S. Department of Homeland Security head Michael Chertoff wrapped up a visit to Asia Tuesday saying countries in the region shared a common interest in 'elevating the level of security in the civilized world.' Speaking to reporters in Beijing on the last leg of his trip which included stops in Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong, Secretary Chertoff said the 'bottom line' was every place he visited shared 'common interest with the United States in fighting terrorism which threatens all of our values, whether they be values in the American continents or the Asian continent.' Chertoff characterized discussions on Monday and Tuesday with Chinese officials as 'very good' and having made 'productive results in a lot of areas of mutual concern.' 'We`ve been able to reach some agreements in principle on matters of common interest and have taken some big steps along the path of continuing law enforcement cooperation,' he noted. When asked what role and position China held in his department`s risk management architecture and what challenges it posed to homeland security, Chertoff said 'China is a huge trading and travel partner with the U.S.,' noting that 'a significant percentage of the container traffic that comes into the United States is out of Chinese ports.' |

Somehow, I'm not very concerned that a bunch of Chinese terrorists are going to attack 25-40% of the population of the US. Secretary Jerkoff doesn't seem to get it...even after Katrina had her way with him.
