Four Russian regions remain affected by bird flu - ministry

MOSCOW. April 4 (Interfax) - Four regions of Russia remain affected by bird flu as of April 4.

Bird flu cases were reported in 67 populated areas in ten districts in the Southern Federal District in the first quarter of 2006, the Agriculture Ministry reported, citing the Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Control Service. About 1.4 million birds have died or have been culled in the affected areas.

Some 12.11 million birds were vaccinated by April 4. Over 22 million vaccine doses have been shipped to Russian regions.
