Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh government will cull around 1000 chickens tomorrow in five villages of Burhanpur district, falling under 10 km radius of Pimpari in Maharashtra's Jalgaon district, where fresh cases of bird flu were detected, official sources said today.

Two rapid response teams will cull around 1000 chickens in Biroda, Bholava, Garhtal, Peepalphata and Mukhwara villages, State Veterinary Services Commissioner Rajesh Rajora said here today.

Compensation will be distributed to 323 poultry farmers after the culling operations; he said adding around 536 houses in the five villages will be disinfected on the same day.

Around 3509 poultry samples were sent to the High Security Animal Disease Laboratory (HSADL), of which samples from Ichhapur in Burhanpur district had tested positive for Avian Influenza, he said adding no case of bird flu was reported in any other place.

Strict vigilance was being maintained in districts bordering Maharashtra and survey operations of poultry in Indore and Ujjain divisions have been intensified, Rajora added.
