It occured to me today that my preps are geared soley for adults. Some have touched on this, but it is something to give serious thought to. If the adults are too sick, can the children read? I plan to put pictures on buckets of what is inside. My preps have been sohpisticated so far, with tins of meat, and flour, rice etc. But children may need to be on their own for while. Small packets of tuna in pouches, pop tarts, peanut butter and crackers, beef jerky. All of this should be in spaces where children can reach them. Juice boxed instead of water that a child can't open. Do you have phone list? Again, a photo of someone with the name and number next to it. Sometimes kids can punch in numbers, but they don't know who they are. The more I prep, the more I know I need to prep.

I agree if I died in the house my son would go to relatives but he would not know if I did not print out names and numbers and his own food box . A phone book done like a scrap book Pictures and phone numbers and address Plus a list posted on the fridge.
He would need a bug out bag with his meds and food clothes socks clothes juiceboxes. Phone book listing family friends in scrapbook form. Birth certificate Some children may need to be left for hour s but only those over ten I hope. They would need a separate food bin small toys books Even teenager left alone would be scared and would need comfort items cd players extra baterries and their own food box. scrap books comfort items |

I have a group of coloring books, crayons, and paper. I plan to add cards, Memory, and Parcheesi. In short, all the games I used to use at camp as a child.
From my experience the most difficult time is when the adults are sick and the children aren't. (I have four grown children.) Perhaps a few test days of make believe you are in charge would diffuse a potentially difficult situation. |

For generations we have lived not wisely but too well. Now we must pay.

Good information on the children. Whats happens during a quarantine if both parents get sick and cannot move about. what happens if you both die in the house and the child is left alone. You should start also prepping for movement to a secure safe child holding site if called to do service by local, state or federal mandates. What happens to people taking care of elderly people in either case you are going to face some unpleasant possibilities.

it might be time to start getting dog tags for yourself and the children. People can get seperated for years, in 1918 weren't there a lot of orphans?

Dog tags? Oh man, this makes me very sad. I want to plan for this, but it's almost too hard to think about this kind of thing. The thought of my grandchildren ages 8,5, and 6 months old fending for themselves is more than I can grasp. Yes, there were lots of orphans in 1918. I guess if we get to the point of seclusion and social isolation we will need to run drills, and as someone else said, play "what if you were the grown up today?" kinds of games. This possible pandemic sometimes feels like a freight train coming and I feel caught in the glare of the lights.

That is sad to think about, children with no parents to take care of them. If a pandemic occurs, I am afraid that will be the case though. I don't have any children, but I would be more than happy to take in any homeless children in my local area if a pandemic were to occur. I know that it would be the right thing to do! I have purchased children's motrin/tylenol for that very reason. |

Mondegreen. Whats a secure child holding site? How could you be called to do service if you had kids? Beth
