Protecting zoo birds from avian influenza Urban captives are sitting ducks for disease "If the dreaded H5N1 strain of bird flu now sweeping through Turkey ever turns up in the Bay Area, the valuable ibis will be whisked from public view, sealed away from the wild birds that may carry the virus and fly freely above the wire mesh ceiling of the aviary."
