This is from tomorrow's edition of The Hill (a Capitol Hill newspaper). Leavett is upping the ante in terms of talking about BF. Here's the link: http://www.thehill.com/thehill/export/TheHill/News/Frontpage /020106/ss_leavitt.html |

When I saw this earlier I couldn't tell if it was from the C-Span hearing talked about this afternoon or if this was information from the 50 state tour trying to get them to step up and prepare. |

Libbyalex, Thank you for the link to Mike Leavitt. Not one word about personal preperation just lot's of talk about local and state responsibility yet I'm not hearing anything about local and state telling anyone that they must prepare for possible disruption in all services. God help us! The C-Span hearing seemed to be focused on stockpiling Tamiflu (which is not even going to be used for the general public) and again not a word about how to help the local state and counties to help get their individual people prepared. Why, I wonder would our government want our society to fall again(hurricanes)into utter helpless chaos. Can't they hear the cry of children without food or feel the agongy of a parent unable to get their babies something to eat or drink or the pitiful sad groans of our elderly left to fend for themselves and completly unable to do so. It apparently iis going to take us six weeks according to CDC to get test results back from the single testing lab in Georgia. As we all know here this flu is going to sweep this nation and world before it can even be verified that it has arrived. What can we do besides to prepare ourselves presonally? My husband wrote to our govenor (Jeb) asking him to break rank with this current mindset of "Don't worry, Be Happy - Our economy is strong, your jobs are secure - keep going to the mall", and help get the people of Florida prepared and informed. The govenment of Minnasota was told by Mike Leavitt of HHS that they were "tragically mistaken if they thought the federal government would be there for them" this surely apply to all states alike.www.echopress.com/article.cfm? I'm going to write to my congresswoman (Corrine Brown) today about this matter, she does not seem afraid to stand up and shout for the people. It will only take one voice to start spreading this news - maybe we can find that one voice . God bless to all of you on this site, we've been following for awhile and refer to all of you as "our new friends".

I personally wish you the best of luck! I myself do not know what it will take to get one of my states officials to come out into the open on this! Here in NV our main income relies so heavily on the casinos and tourism, that I really don't believe that they would want to get the message out to the masses because of the economic impact. After all who wants to come to Las Vegas or Reno and win the jackpot of bird flu? Meewee |

I agree, Meewee! My sister moved to Las Vegas about three months
ago and when I asked her if she has heard if the city was making any
preparations for bird flu. She said "no, i've never heard a
single person mention one word about it". The lack of preparation
scares me because she is alone out there---the rest of the family lives
on the East Coast and in the Midwest---- and I am so scared that she
will have no one to help her if there is a pandemic. I am quite certain
that the city of LasVegas won't be able to provide help to their
citizens if they dont' start planning for a pandemic quickly!
I am hoping to convince her about the importance of planning-- I spoke with her last night and asked her to come to this forum just to read what others have posted. Hopefully, that will inspire her to start making preparations!! |
