My wife and I went to Costco today, first time in a while.  My shopping list was unremarkable, but I wanted our typical paper towels.

Well, there were NONE TO BE HAD!  The damn idiots are hoarding/stockpiling again!

https://www.businessinsider.com/costco-shoppers-stockpiling-toilet-paper-worsen-supply-chain-issues-2021-8

How goes it where you folks are?  In Oz and UK, is the loo paper disappearing?

They've been at this about a month now around here. No water jugs to be found at neither Whole Foods nor Sprouts by me (SoCal). Even when I was back home (NorCal) beginning of month they were running low on tp and water. Limits of 2 and 5, & people still tried to get more than 5/ threw a fit over it. Down here, was lucky enough to get Costco TP (decided to get an extra one incase people act out again), the two limit from last year has served me well for nearly an entire year. Mostly just working on my jug w/ spout waters again bc it's easier to deal with compared to the individual bottles.

Sanitizer is easy to get though. Even the large bottles are 99c, when they once were 10$ each. Feels like I am one the the few getting them around here.

Be prepared! It may be time....^_^v

Doctor, and others, what are your views of a bidet shower thing vs TP?

I think you are less likely to run out of water.

I work with a Muslim man ,who never used TP, things we dirty for using it.

when we thought we would run  short of TP ,wife went out bought a load of micro cloths,if need to wash them and reuse,no different than towelling baby nappies/diapers....

Can't eat TP....

Store food much better option.....

Take care all πŸ˜·πŸ˜‰

Yep, hoarding going on here, too, not so much paper products, but canned food, especially soup.

There's panic buying going on here. I went in to the supermarket on Sunday, the first time I've been in since the lockdown started and there was no flour at all, and also toilet paper had been shopped out but as I was there, a member of staff was unloading a case of TP onto the shelf so I bought a packet. There was no pasta left, and weird things like maple syrup and coconut milk was all gone. I asked an assistant what it had been like and she said that people were just buying indiscriminately anything that had a long shelf life. It was all a bit depressing really.

I saw a few last week and a few more this week.  We have enough to get us thru the fall.  bottled water is kind of scarce.  The local wally world is again putting restrictions on goods.

I would be fine with a bidet if my complex let us set it up, but my complex has water shut off often because the pipes are old and break too much. Some SoCal Costco locations started to put restrictions of 1 on paper and water items.

Our shelves are a bit bare mainly water bottles.   ALARM though In Scotland  .. in hospital we have run out of vials to collect blood in, testing media, petri dishes, and lab reagents.

Non urgent blood samples are being discouraged until late Sept

Not so much hoarding here, but it is the end of the holiday season, and for winter we are a very small community, so as stocking levels in the local shop are adjusted we are seeing some empty spots, but they are filled in a day or two.  This past week they have included sanitary pads and milk (earlier on it was eggs and another time salami).

Part of the problem (near the end of a rural line) is that there are not daily deliveries of every item (typically meats are delivered every other day).   This encourages a good level of home stock - I need at least one reserve item of each item I buy so if there is a temporary shortage then we are covered.

More on what Hazelpad wrote about

Quote NHS blood test tube shortage: Doctors 'facing difficult choices'

...

The vials used for blood tests are currently in short supply - and the NHS in England and Wales is temporarily stopping all non-urgent testing.

https://www.bbc.com/news/health-58374553

This is not so much hoarding, as a combination of other factors such as increased demand (result of covid), import problems (Brexit), and transport difficulties (Brexit, Corvid, and aging drivers leaving the industry, and a covid induced pause in licensing new drivers).

I am surprised that the supply chain has held up as well as it has.   But then problems take time to work their way through the system.  Eg while in World War Two England faced food shortages, it was in the years after the war that rationing was at its peak and the country came near to starvation levels (at least that is from recent history reports --- nothing was said about it when I was at school!)

While we cannot help much in the vials for blood problem this is a call to make sure we recheck our own stock levels before more problems work their way through the system

ps. another area, but where one might have to go back to just a rug on the grass:- Report finds big rises in garden furniture prices.

I've just started buying Christmas presents because I'm worried about supply chain issues and also the shortage of essential components for electronic goods. My children are teenagers and so all they want is electronic stuff!!! I'm finding it very hard to think about Christmas in August though - it's too cold - Christmasses here are all warm and sunny. I've put a bit of tinsel on my PC to inspire me.

I can not think about Christmas because it's too hot outside!! LOL
One thing the moms groups in my area are having a hard time finding is those drink boxes that the kiddos love...you know that have juice in them or punch - even the pouches seem to be in short supply. There is talk that the drink box production line can't find enough workers, therefore very hard to find on the grocery shelves!

The same here! I was in the supermarket yesterday and couldn't get loads of things that we buy regularly and the line manager told me that suppliers were having a problem sourcing packaging. There were so many gaps on the shelves. They have now rationed flour to 2 items per person. I'd have bought a bag but there wasn't any left!

CVS puts limit on rapid COVID-19 test purchases due to surging demand

CVS Health has put a limit on the number of COVID-19 at-home tests that can be bought online and in their stores amid a supply shortage as new cases surge across the country.

The company is now limiting customers to six tests in an online order and four tests if you purchase them at a store location.

Ditto here.  No shortages and the sense that something wicked this way comes.  Feels like it's just on the horizon.  So I'm making my list and checking it twice.

Well with only 40% vaccinated here and a push by the liberal government to open up , because we have an election coming up (sound familiar),and the disaster unfolding in the USA,and numbers going up in UK,and Scotland,I think it makes sense to build up the stockpile,

Mind with 97% approval rating, our Premier not going to listen to the federal government, aka Scott Morrison, who's

"Gold Standard,NSW "has turned into a disaster....!!!!

But we do rely on trucks from the eastern states for some  goods.....

I don't go crazy buying,I get very basic foods, flour ,dried lentils, pasta ,tinned fish, tinned vegetables, dried milk(wife hates it but needs must),kilos of rice, salt ,yeast,if the worst happens we can live on rice pudding, carbs and protein, that's all you need......

Take care all πŸ˜·πŸ˜‰πŸ’‰

Jeez, don't throw meds away!  Even out-of-date meds can have a lot of potency, and in an emergency, they can be life saving.

I take anticonvulsants to control epilepsy, and if I run out, well, sooner or later I die.  You can bet that I hoard those suckers!  Even drugs years old - if they are kept dry, they may have enough potency to make a difference.

I also hoard old meds. I keep all of mine in the dark in a cold but very dry environment. I have no idea if they'll still work but they are there just in case. I have so much codeine it's ridiculous. I've been prescribed it after some operations I had and I never felt enough pain to warrant taking any. I joke with my hubby that if I ever need to amputate his leg with our meat saw it'll come in handy.....

I've been trying to keep my meds up too. Especially zofran, having GP is no fun with all that nausea, so I carry a little nausea kit in my purse of zofran, ginger candies, tums, etc.

Speaking of tums/other things like it, people seem to be buying it all out now at Targets around here πŸ€”.  I went to replenish  and the shelves were looking bare. πŸ₯² I use it & the other stuff so I can use the zofran less.

Be prepared! It may be time....^_^v

Edwin, I'm ahead of the curve on Christmas. I've been ordering like mad. All my children's main presents are already en route from the US to here. Should be here next week. The problem I'm having is I'm lacking inspiration on the gift front. I have no idea what to get my hubby. I used up all my good ideas on Father's Day yesterday.

Indiana- Local large chain grocery today with new limits not present a week ago. (Limits that is reminiscent of a year ago.) Not sure if it’s related to hoarding, lack of packaging supplies or workforce.
