With the arrival of cooler weather, and the drier indoor air it causes through the effect of forced-air heating, we are now seeing a sharp increase in COVID-19 rates in Canada, Europe, and the northern United States. In the article linked below, Doctor Golemi-Kotra of York University explains how reduced humidity affects the spread of COVID-19. She also recommends the use of humidifiers to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Based on her recommendation I believe it is worthwhile exploring the use of humidifiers to reduce the COVID fatality rate in long-term care. With the impact of a COVID vaccine still several months away, any measure that might reduce COVID fatalities in the interim would be a valuable tool to have. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/covid-19-winter-tips-1.5788154 |
