India reports human birdflu death
19 February 2006 07:27 India has reported its first suspected human death from bird flu. A poultry farm owner is believed to have died from the disease on Friday. The dead man was a resident of Maharashtra state, where the H5N1 strain of the disease has been discovered in thousands of chickens. Doctors are testing several people in the area for the disease and up to half a million birds are expected to be culled. |
