Flu Burung
6.369 Ayam Mati, 2 Warga Diduga Terinfeksi

Laporan Wartawan Kompas Andy Riza Hidayat

In here some where it says,"Result him was positive, because that we recommended that the health service checked each citizen that sakit,” Rizal words.
Results of this test showed the spreading of the virus has happened in Aceh North."
I hope the power stays up!

maysday,

It is hard to track what is going on over there. I am sure we don't even here half of what really is happening. They don't have the infrastructure to get news out. Bird Flu could hit a remote village hard over there and  it could take a week or two before anyone even knew something was wrong.

Unless something changes with the current mortality rate I believe we will hear it quickly. When 1000's start dying, we'll know.  I feel for the people in this country. I think they have been open about their situation but have a larger problem than they can deal with. Just my opinion.

ATTEMPTED SUMMARY OF LAST FEW POSTS

There are 3 suspected clusters in Aceh Province and 2  suspected cases
1 in Aceh and 1 in nearby Medan.

Cluster 1 ( Aceh )

Abode                  -  Achinese Regency North Nanggroe  Aceh
                               Daussalam Blang Jruen Village
Current Hospital  -  Cut Meutia Regional Public Hospital

                              Tgk. M. Said ( 65 ) father
( also referred to as M. Saen )
                              Hj Asiah  ( 60 ) Mother

Related parties    - Ibrahim ( 47 ) son ,  no symptoms
Comments           - The article suggests lax security at hospital
with other family members having access to
                              patients - but I may have miss-read this .

Cluster 2 ( Aceh )

Abode                   - Kampar City ( ???? not too sure )
Current Hospital   - RSUD Arfin Achmad
Suspected Cases - 2 children
                              Fakhur Rozi ( 9 )
                              Edo Sturdy Triandi ( 3,5 )
Related parties    - Miswanto ( 45 ) no symptoms

Cluster 3 ( Aceh )

Abode                   - Village of Ampeh , Subdistrict of Tanah Luas

Comments             It is not clear whether this group have been
released from hospital or whether the article
refers to another 3 suspected cases that were
                              subsequently released.

Isolated case ( Aceh )

Abode                  - Batuphat east Village , Estuary Subdistrict one.

Isolated Case ( Medan  )

Abode                  -  Medan
Current Hospital  -  Central Public Hospital of Pilgrim Adam the Owner
Suspected Cases -  1 child
                                Jalan Sisingamangaraja

My further comments

Recent descriptions of patients symptoms make mention of coughing ,  It seems to me that this symptom was not present in earlier reports in previous months , although I have not checked .

Although Medan is also on the Island of Sumatra I think it should be
regarded as seperate from the Aceh cases because of the distance
( just an opinion , mind )

If there are many more clusters in Aceh in the near future I may pack
a cut-lunch and head for the hills .

The INDONESIE continues its monitoring and especially its daily contribution in new case, which they suspect or are currently confirmed later, it always acts of case whose symptoms are similar with the aviary influenza. The 14/12/2006 we learned that two patients (a couple of 65 and 60 years) of the village of Blang Jruen, district of area Land in the north of Aceh were hospitalized with symptoms of the aviary influenza like a strong fever and important breathlessness. Let us note that the week preceding this hospitalization, their chickens suddenly died. The 16/12/2006, they is 4 other old patients of 7, 10, 20 and 50 years and coming all the 4 from the district of Aera Land which are also suspectés to be cases H5N1. This information is currently on standby of confirmation by the health services and especially on standby of the blood results....... But the speed with which these cases appear and in the same sector deserves an increased monitoring.......

Metrotvnews.com, Lhokseumawe: The Number Of patients suspect bird flu that was treated in the Cut Meutia Hospital, Lhokseumawe, Nangroe Aceh Darussalam, on Saturday (16/12), improved to nine people.

Hey , First post and egg on the face - Great.

It would seem that I should have assigned 4 of the suspect cases
to the Cut Meutia Hospital rather than RSUD Arfin Achmad .

Ridwan Umar ( 50 )
Hidayatul Fitri ( 7 )
Numasyitah ( 20 )
Rahmadani 10 )

( According to Shadows post of 14 Dec. )

But it still does not add-up to the 9 cases in Cut Meutia Hospital  as asserted in Hopefulls most recent post.

3 New Cases ?

Thanks to both of you. So it looks like 3 suspected clusters and other (uncertain how many) isolated suspect cases, is that right? Thank you Ross, you understand this much better than I do.

Maysday

I guess it depends on whether the 3 new ( supposed ) cases,  know
or are related to any of the other suspected cases.

I am certain of nothing and welcome revision of the figures by anyone who wants to do the work.

But yes Maysday , your summary seems to me , to be roughly correct.

The real issue is ofcourse whether there is any connection between the
clusters other than dead poultry .

Perhaps somebody might like to lookup how close the place names are
to one-another .

Aceh has been racked in recent years by fighting between
Islamic and seperatists  . Almost certainly there would be
great distrust/fear /hatred  prevalent  in the community and
one wonders what effect that has on
-  reporting of cases ( are we only hearing about  one sides  cases ? )
-  whether the 2 groups happily share the same hospitals ?
-  distribution of tamiflu
-  etc etc

Perhaps people who know the area might like to comment ?

With 9 suspected cases we probably should watch this on e closely. It sounds like they are just being careful. But if they announce more tomorrow and the next day then there is a problem.

Wess, Are you joking? I'm sorry but I do not follow your line of thought. The topic here is Indonesia. How could taking poultry off the table here or anywhere have anything to do with their situation? It's my understanding they have free roaming chickens but for their own purpose. It's not like they are importing chicken or turkey. Sorry, but I don't see the reasoning on that.

Good luck and I hope you don't have to run for the hills. Also, what is a "cut lunch"?

Maysday, In one of these stories it's said that one person ate the chicken and became sick. I think that's why poultry was mentioned like this. Which isn't only happening here but also, elsewhere.

Ross, I misunderstood. I owe you an apology and I'm very sorry.

Shadow, cooked chicken? The virus should be killed in fully cooked chicken. A virus cannot withstand that high of a temperture. I believe it's in the handling of the meat (slaughtering, de-feathering and dressing).

We need to watch this country closely!

My thanks to all of you.

Maysday, I don't think they cook there chicken as good as we would. I do believe that they are infected by the Slaughtering etc. But in Hungary they are also getting this virus from eating the chicken and I would think their cleaning practices would be far more advanced, but I don't know.

Shadow, thank you. I don't know much about the culture and I don't understand how anyone could get a virus from cooked food. If the dishes served have raw chicken like some fish is served then that might explain.
Thanks!
