This article came up on my feed this am: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/dont-panic-but-take-it-seriously-canadian-in-italy-offers-advice/ar-BB11o4ec?ocid=spartandhp A Canadian in Milan who is talking about taking the virus seriously from the point of view of someone right there. This paragraph made me pause. On Wednesday, Italy saw a record high in the numbers of infections and deaths reported, adding more than 4,200 new cases for a total of 35,713 infections. Another 475 people died, bringing Italy's death toll to 2,978. I paused and then thought 'how many people die of annual flu in Italy?' and googled it - this is what came up. "In January this year, Italy reported that since flu season started in October 2019, over 2 million cases of flu were recorded, resulting in 240 deaths. Most of these fatal cases were elderly patients who suffered complications as a result of the virus." |

Sorry getting so many fonts...ugh Not sure if the 240 is a typo? If not then that means Covid has killed approx.12 times the number of people since Jan.20 as annual flu has since Oct.19. Higher up in article it says "According to the study, 68 000 deaths were attributable to flu epidemics in the winter months between 2013 and 2014, and 2016 and 2017 respectively." |
