It's all a matter semantics. Do they have H5N1 in North America, yes. They call it a low risk "LPAI" (low-pathogen), as does much of the world. The Canadian government found this in birds located in southern Canada last fall. The Spring migration will bring fresh H5N1 geneticswhich is likely to spark more outbreaks. In the horticultural sciences it's called "Hybrid Vigor". It's the same reason you don't want to marry a close cousins or relatives, a lack of fresh genetics. |
