What are the last minute peeps that everyone is working on?
We are working on getting even more water and going through some of the expired things and going to replace them this weekend. I’ve got masks, goggles and hand sanitizer among other things ive collected but what other things are on your lists to get this weekend? I have canned goods, ramen, some frozen stuff, Mac and cheese (easy Mac), rice and instant mashed potatoes. I imagine probably at least two weeks for my husband and myself, maybe more if we eat conservatively lol we just started weight watchers anyway! Lol What other foods are crucial to your preps? What should I grab this weekend? What is your go to protein (I HATE tuna and canned chicken, may as well be eating cat food lol). I do also have quite a bit of protein powder that could work for a few days as well, but I will be grumpy by the end lol I have some chocolates stashed and some games in our bags in case we need to leave. Going to get more dog food this weekend and just refilled our meds. It’s looking more and more like sheltering in place is going to be in the near future and I want to be as ready as possible, especially with the CDC now sounding the alarm to people.

I am fully prepped got my last minute things I needed yesterday. I am getting ready to buy plywood for my windows in case things get crazy and putting in all the gas to fill my tank up from home again this weekend. I guess you have to put in items you will eat up after this is all over. I have freeze dry and dehydrated foods if we really have to SIP. I can stay in my house for many months without leaving.
See I love tuna and canned chicken....go figure everyone is different...LOL. I really hope we have power and water. I guess if we are asked to SIP I will fill my water cubes but not until I feel it is getting bad or the power goes out. |

Hi Lashe48603, WELCOME to AFT!
Fill any Gerry cans you have with suitable fuel for your vehicles - in case you need to move in middle of all (unlikely but good to have a can anyway) if you have a house/lawn you can always use gas up in lawnmower. Nuts are great protein so if you eat peanut butter or any of the nut butters too, Beans (dried - take time to cook but decent protein or for simplicity canned beans - talking pinto, kidney, garbonza etc not the green/yellow garden type)… Tofu (YUCK!) but it's an option if you can stand it (will never be in my preps! LOL) Sounds like you're on the right track and have a great start. |

Tofu is an amazing foodstuff - But only
if you know its secret! FLAVOUR, FLAVOUR, FLAVOUR! Tofu absorbs whatever flavour you put with it. Dice and marinade it with LOTS of the flavours you love THE NIGHT BEFORE! On the day is too late, it will still taste like chalk/cardboard/water. Oh and you know the way peanut butter sticks to the roof of your mouth? Mix in a little tofu (up to 50/50) and spread that. It tastes exactly the same - but no longer sticks. |

I would say I am pretty close to fully prepared (I always think I need more!). I have topped off my freeze dried food stocks, rotated my can goods, loaded up on OTC meds, and have plenty of personal protective gear. I keep a minimum of 6 months worth of food in the house under normal conditions (I am exceeding that currently). I think I will add more cold and flu remedies just in case.

Good advice all!
We are leaving aldis right now. 25 more gallons of water and a bunch more food. $162 at aldis got us a ton lol I estimate at least a month of food now, more if we really ration it. Makes me feel better having some more stuff on hand. Oh and toilet paper lol gotta have more toilet paper!

I bought some spaghetti and sauce tonight too! Definitely not the most healthy but we would have full bellies.
I just did a count and we have 7 boxes of ramen (not the best and probably not enough I know lol) and I figured we could eat Over month on just that. We have probably a week worth of Mac and cheese, three bags of chicken patties, tons of canned veggies and fruits, 20 or so cans of soup, 8 cans of spaghettios lol. Pancake mix, cereal, frozen pastas, potatoes (around 20lbs cause they last a long time) and total we have about 40 gallons of water. I sure do feel better now having gone through everything that we have and I’m glad we started a few weeks ago. We have a long way to go but at least it’s a start! Oh and 7 bags of dog food for the three fur babies

We have been cooking a lot at home so the rest of the stuff should get eaten. If this all blows over the water will go into our fish tanks (we have a bunch, including salt water). And if the ramen never gets eaten, I’ll actually be happy because then the s has not htf haha

I always figure that food pantries will use what I do not want. But I did not purchase anything I will not use. It will take some time though because I purchase like my son and his girlfriend will be here with me. Not sure if that will happen.

I think the same way on that subject FluMom. I inventory my preps pantry sometime in November and donate what's close to the best by date for Thanksgiving or Christmas to my local food pantry.
You can all laugh at me if you will, but I bought a kaiser roll stamp. Yes I know how to do the kaiser roll folds, but this will be easier. And just think! Fresh kaiser rolls while in lock down! Oh.. and I've stocked in a few pounds of cold cuts in half pound vacuum sealed packets in the freezer. Other than that, I'm done except for an order that will be coming in tomorrow with boneless chicken breasts and thighs for the freezer and a couple of bags of chips. Ready for lock-down! Because if any cities are locked down, I anticipate NYC to be one of them. |

I realized I had done so much prepping, I forgot hand sanitizer! It is mostly out (or 10x price), on Amazon, and Walmart.com. Found some on eBay, but priced higher, with longer shipping. UGGGHHHH. I knew better.

BabyCat, we still have a lot of hand sanitizer at our local dollar store. Is that an option for you? Would it be worth checking out?

Thanks, maybe I'll go tomorrow (I did NOT want to be out now). I bet there might be a run on some things tomorrow, with the news here in the Bay Area.

Costco has it. Costco is great for prepping. Especially non perishable items. If you don’t like the product or need it return it. You don’t even need your receipt . Hope and pray for the best prepare for the worst. It is your responsibility to take care of yourself and your family not your government. If you can prepare a little more and help someone who can’t for whatever reason. Thank you to all of you who provide so much information here. You have helped me so much. Wishing you all the best as we all weather this storm.

We got a bunch of hand sanitizer and some sterno from the dollar store a few weeks ago. We got some rubbing alcohol too from there. Haven’t been there since so I’ll be curious to see if they are out. I noticed at aldis a ton of people were stocking up on stuff. One pallet of toilet paper was gone, only 2 gallons of 2% were visible but I’m sure they had more in the back.

Quick stop at Walmart on my way to work. This is sort of one of my last lists that I normally never buy, trying to expand the current supplies in general. 6 cases of veggies for soup, 1 cinnamon apples, 1 of peaches (forgot about a dessert!). 2 tins of super tiny hams but might be good chopped in potatoes, hopefully all this will be donated to my local food pantry in the fall. The few people shopping looked at me like I was crazy. I think someone even took a pic of my cart while I was in line, I wanted the lady to see I caught her taking a pic. I said “oh my dear grandmother is so worried she had me stop to fill her pantry, lol.” (RIP my granny since 1989.) My new plan is to add small amounts each day on my lunch break or after work., there was no one there this morning but I DO NOT like the attention. One last “big” trip from fresh veggies, then it will be quick in/outs if it feels safe. Letter from local public schools going out to parents saying “we’re watching this evolving situation” here in Hoosierland I am hearing from school employees. Prayers for all.

I'd have taken my phone out and taken a picture of her and her cart. Then shown it to her.
And don't underestimate those little hams. Especially if you're cooking for one or two. Cooked like a regular canned ham with pineapple or cloves.. it's delicious and makes good sandwiches along with ham and eggs or ham scrapple. I have six in my preps pantry. |

What little hams? I've only seen small cans of cooked ham here (Canada) can someone post a photo or an amazon link or??? You've got me curious! I picked up a couple condiment sauces last night (need flavour!) and (CRS will appreciate this) SOAP, lots and LOTS of soap, along with some general disinfectant. All stuff I use anyway - but other then milk & fresh produce (which I'm working on plan for now) I think I'm in pretty good shape! |

Yes. DAK hams are what I'm talking about. You may also see Celebrity brand. Shelf stable and a long shelf life. I cook them first only to cook out the gel and water content. |

Went last week to Sam's and picked up some soup, grits, crackers, minute rice, etc. My back was killing me so I wasn't able to get the canned tuna, canned chicken, canned salmon, flour, toilet paper, hand sanitizer, alcohol, extra body wash, hand soap, etc I've got some stuff coming, face masks, dried milk, freeze dried veggies and fruits, etc. I'll order more soup, canned beans, canned peaches, etc from Wal-Mart and do the pick up. Planning to get some for family too. |

I ordered in six more cans of evaporated milk. Just to have. Like powdered milk, it's not bad when reconstituted and chilled. I like it better than powdered. Right now I'm getting back into practice baking my own bread so the last minutes are fresh yeast, another sack of bread flour, whole wheat flour, corn meal, poppy and sesame seeds, molasses and more oats. |

I think I just have the last of my 3-month stock up prescriptions to get (Tuesday), a propane tank to buy (just in case we lose power), a couple of small grocery store trips for fresh stuff, a sam's club order or two to pick up. And my normal Amazon Subscribe and Save order will ship this week, that's larger than normal. |

Everyday I check the forum and everyday add more stuff to my list! LOL....now I have to add evaporated milk, more yeast as I am starting to learn to make bread, and zinc losengezes from my post from yesterday...oh what else, I have more big packages of dog treats to get from Aldi. I am so happy with my home set up. It makes me feel so much better to have a stock on hand. I did order some more can opener type cookbooks, coming soon, and have added most of the ingred. from those. Also going to grab some potted herbs for the kitchen. |

Well today I just got a garden tower a cheap one from Amazon, have the dirt and seeds going to start a lettuce tower. I will miss lettuce so I am going to have a small lettuce pot growing ASAP until my garden is ready....yes I have purchased all my seeds. I hope this holds off until mid May so I can go get tomato plants...I don't think seeds will do it where my garden is so fingers crossed. |

That means you open cans of different items to make a great meal from can goods. I owned a restaurant years ago and I am a pretty good cook so I put things together and they are tasty. I have given away most of my cook books just don't need them, I create on my own. |

Today, we picked up some adult coloring books (that will keep my daughter and I entertained), some word seeks and crossword puzzles, and some Easter goodies. We figured that it would be good to have some entertainment that exercised the brain, and we could make it fun — a family crossword competition with a candy prize, or coloring family evening. Stuff like that. The Easter goodies are just in case we are SIP when Easter gets here — that way the kids can still have _something_ for the holiday. We are starting to think a lot more seriously about what SIP would entail, and now we’re trying to find things that would help prevent boredom with two teens! |
