* SOUTHEAST ALASKA, The inner and outer coast from Cape
Decision, Alaska (85 miles SE of Sitka) to Cape
Fairweather, Alaska (80 miles SE of Yakutat)
* SOUTH ALASKA AND THE ALASKA PENINSULA, Pacific coasts from
Cape Fairweather, Alaska (80 miles SE of Yakutat) to
Hinchinbrook Entrance, Alaska (90 miles E of Seward)
* ALEUTIAN ISLANDS, Samalga Pass, Alaska (30 miles SW of
Nikolski) to Amchitka Pass, Alaska (125 miles W of Adak)
including the Pribilof Islands
For other US and Canadian Pacific coasts in North America,
the level of tsunami danger is being evaluated. Further
information will be provided in supplementary messages. DJ Strong aftershocks or other quakes could worsen tsunami risks. It could take 3 hrs+ before a Tsunami would reach Canada West Coast...maybe 12 hrs before Hawaii/Phillipines... |

Both https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_Indian_Ocean_earthquake_and_tsunami or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_Indian_Ocean_earthquake_and_tsunami and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_T%C5%8Dhoku_earthquake_and_tsunami or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_T%C5%8Dhoku_earthquake_and_tsunami had an earthquake with M9/9+...so risks for tsunami in larger area may be limited-so far. https://www.adn.com/alaska-news/2021/07/28/gulf-of-alaska-coast-under-tsunami-warning-following-strong-earthquake/ or https://www.adn.com/alaska-news/2021/07/28/gulf-of-alaska-coast-under-tsunami-warning-following-strong-earthquake/ ; Update, July 29, 12:30 a.m.: The tsunami warning that had been in effect from the Aleutians to Kodiak to Prince William sound has been canceled, an advisory is still in effect. DJ If there is no tsunami warning for nearby area's risks for further away area's https://www.rt.com/usa/530535-alaska-earthquake-tsunami-warning/ or https://www.rt.com/usa/530535-alaska-earthquake-tsunami-warning/ ; The US National Weather Service Guam has downgraded the possible threat, noting, “At this time, there is no tsunami threat out for Guam & the CNMI (Northern Mariana Islands).” The National Weather Service added that Hawaii had elected to cancel its “Tsunami Watch” status, but confirmed that “all other Warnings and Advisories continue until further notice.” The quake is the largest to hit the US since 1965, and the sixth-largest in the continent’s history. All the US’s most severe earthquakes have occurred in the state of Alaska. DJ It was a strong quake-possibly resulting in increased of further quakes in the Pacific ring, strong after shocks...but for now "damage seems to be very limited".... |

DJ-Three hours after the major M8,2 Alaska quake-A M5,5 in Myanmar, M5,3 in the East Pacific and lots of aftershocks in Alaska... It is not "totally over" but tsunami risks seem to be gone...seismic activity may return to "normal"... (but there may be an increased risks for major earthquakes in the coming weeks-M8,2 is a major quake !) https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/news-nation/m8-2-earthquake-smashes-alaska-s-aleutian-island-chain-small-tsunami-generated or https://halturnerradioshow.com/index.php/en/news-page/news-nation/m8-2-earthquake-smashes-alaska-s-aleutian-island-chain-small-tsunami-generated DJ-Allthough the official Tsunami warnings are lifted-HT has a point in buoys "going wild" both in the north pacific-and a few in the Atlantic Ocean (in front of US east coast). New quakes colliding with small tsunami-like waves may be still some risk. |
