DJ, With most of the testing/reporting on not only CoViD but also M-pox (and H5N1 ?) gone-"the news" on the ongoing healthcrisis is "under control". I will try to find info (here for may 2023) on the ongoing healthcrisis. One question to find out is if CoViD is now resulting more in chronic (long term) disease than deaths. As seen before infection on a large scale in some regions may offer protection against some new variants (either imported or developing in the same region). #COVID19 #VariantDashboard - #UnitedStates TOP lineages (#15DAYTRENDS): 56.2% XBB.1.5 6.1% XBB.1.9.1 4.5% XBB.1.16 2.2% XBB.1.5.1 2.1% XBB.1.9.2 1.4% XBB.1.5.13 1.4% XBB.1.5.15 1.4% XBB.1.5.17 #SARSCoV2 Tracker: http://tinyurl.com/mryj4uu7 Updated: 05/01/23 DJ, India would not have had much of XBB.1.5 (sub) variants resulting in more "room" for XBB.1.16 (sub)variants...XBB.2.3 would be growing -with lots of subvariants (XBB.2.3.1 etc) result of mutations-high speed... https://www.euromomo.eu/graphs-and-maps or https://www.euromomo.eu/graphs-and-maps excess deaths however so far are limited...Also hospital cases -so far- not result in worsening the already excisting healthcrisis...So...is CoViD no longer a major risk ? The US government will end COVID-19 vaccination requirements for federal employees, contractors, international travelers.. DJ, I refuse to be "neutral and objective"...the biden-junta is a disaster for both the US and the world in foreign policy...If they make such a mess there do I trust the US-lots of western governments-on reporting of pandemics ? No...but I need "info" to learn more... As a primary care doctor, I can tell you that “People with #LongCovid don’t fake being ill, they mostly fake being well” DJ, "Long CoViD" may by now be the most widespread form of CoViD...it is NOT a different disease...it is the same disease in a chronic form. Lots of indications for even the virus remaining in "hosts" for a long time....And a lot of "hosts" by now are no longer humans... Spread of CoViD-19 in animals DOES result in more mutations/variants... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022%E2%80%932023_mpox_outbreak#Cases_per_country_and_territory or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022%E2%80%932023_mpox_outbreak#Cases_per_country_and_territory DJ-M-pox in most cases does not kill..."main stream media/MSM" made Mpox a "gay-disease" so stigmatizing people with mpox as a group with "problematic" -lots of partners- behavior...It may fit in an anti-gay agenda but is damaging healthcontrol.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_spread_of_H5N1 or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_spread_of_H5N1 is widespread and out of control...not only in birds but also in mammals... Like with US/NATO wars "MSM"-owned by the war industry- fail to do a good job... https://afludiary.blogspot.com/2023/04/the-other-mixing-vessel-for-pandemic.html or https://afludiary.blogspot.com/2023/04/the-other-mixing-vessel-for-pandemic.html ; One of the things we've learned in the past couple of decades about influenza is that humans - much like birds and pigs - can be co-infected with 2 or more flu viruses simultaneously. Up until 2009, human co-infection with influenza A had only rarely been reported.
In 2008, we saw a report of an Indonesian teenager who tested positive both H5N1 and the seasonal flu strain H3N2 (see CIDRAP report Avian, human flu coinfection reported in Indonesian teen), demonstrating that co-infection with Influenza A was possible. But the big breakthrough came in 2009 when the pandemic H1N1 virus emerged and co-circulated for a time with the old seasonal H1N1 virus, allowing scientists in New Zealand to isolate and document 11 cases of Influenza A co-infection (see EID Journal: Co-Infection By Influenza Strains for the full story). Since then we've seen a growing number of documented human co-infections, and more importantly, the detection of novel flu reassortants originating from them. DJ...not only pigs but also humans can be coinfected with different flu-virusses in the same time... Luckily, most reassortant viruses aren't biologically `fit' enough to compete with more established strains, and quickly fade away, often without ever being noticed. If creating a pandemic virus were easy, we'd be hip deep in them all the time.
After three years of the COVID pandemic, and round-after-round of COVID shots, many people are weary of getting vaccines, including for seasonal flu. While understandable, not vaccinating against seasonal flu provides additional opportunities for H5N1 (or H5N6, H3N8, H9N2, etc.) to reassort in a human host. DJ-CoViD infection weakens immunity...so lots of other diseases https://afludiary.blogspot.com/2023/05/the-lancet-candida-auris-emerging.html or https://afludiary.blogspot.com/2023/05/the-lancet-candida-auris-emerging.html get more chances... ---------------- What can/should we do ? -Reduce (global/air) travel...we are transporting all kinds of diseases all over the planet 24/7...Why ? Profits ? At the end pandemics may kill us all...not worth the "profits/economy"! -Masks have been used hundreds of years to limit infection risks...certainly in combination with eye-protection they may limit infection risks...for lots of diseases... -Ventilation lowers "disease levels" in buildings (hospitals, schools, offices) ...also low cost, very simple... -UV-C lights have been used in the past to limit diseases... -Work/study from home more often -may also limit traffic jams, air polution... -Improving air quality also limits lung (etc) damage...les fossil fuel burning=better air quality ! -Improving your health, ride a bike ( a bicycle...not a motor-bike !), walk more... -Stress reduction also helps...A vaccation nearby can make you enjoy the country/place you live in... So...lots of things YOU !!! can do ! Vaccines have become a conflict-zone...If you do not want CoViD-vaccines make up your mind on flu-vaccines (non mRNA)...Vaccines did save millions of lives ! |

DJ, The Sahara-desert is moving into Spain...Embedded media like https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/may/03/un-warns-heat-records-could-be-broken-as-chance-of-el-nino-rises or https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/may/03/un-warns-heat-records-could-be-broken-as-chance-of-el-nino-rises now more in line with http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/2023/04/humans-may-be-extinct-in-2026.html or http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/2023/04/humans-may-be-extinct-in-2026.html ... The only thing under control in pandemics is "the news"...claiming there are no pandemics... Indonesia Covid update Over the last few weeks, Indonesia recorded more than 1,000 new cases every day, bringing the total caseload to 6.7 million since the pandemic began. “The trend is still climbing. The peak is predicted to occur next week,” and The "mini waves" discussed in the article imply a high year round level of infections, with far more overall annual covid infections than flu infections. This is not a good thing (Which both the article and Farrar agree with). - COVID's future: mini-waves rather than seasonal surges https://nature.com/articles/d41586-023-01437-8 linkhttps://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-023-01437-8 or https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-023-01437-8 ; Three years after the start of the pandemic, SARS-CoV-2 shows no signs of settling into a seasonal pattern of spread, like influenza has. DJ among others https://www.independentsage.org/ or https://www.independentsage.org/ try to get a view on the ongoing healthcrisis -now officialy (as good as) denied by the (political club) WHO.... - Where I have added my view on this WHO decision too... Esentially, regardless of whether it is considered as a pandemic, Covid remains a significant problem across the world, especially for Long Covid & for the clinically extremely vulnerable. - DJ, as a non-expert, just trying to get an "informed opinion" spread of CoViD from humans into lots of mammals is a nightmare...a "Public Health Emergency of International Concern" (PHEIC)...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_health_emergency_of_international_concern or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_health_emergency_of_international_concern The combination of CoViD spreading from humans into mammals with H5N1 (most) spreading from birds into mammals -at a very high level...out of control...is even more then a PHEIC... Of course climate collapse http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/2023/04/humans-may-be-extinct-in-2026.html or http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/2023/04/humans-may-be-extinct-in-2026.html and out of control warmongering by NATO seeking war with Russia-Iran-China, BRIICSS+ are "PHEIC"s... The Iraq-war -killing over 1 million- was "good" a NATO "liberation" - Russia (a.o.) against NATO moving east is "bad"...may already have killed close to half a million...and it is just one of many wars... WHO: The pandemic is over, but.... The highest numbers of new 28-day cases were reported from the US, South Korea, India and France. The highest numbers of new 28-day deaths were reported from the US, Brazil, Russia, France, and Iran. https://who.int/publications/m/item/weekly-epidemiological-update-on-covid-19---4-may-2023 and Relax. That 317% increase in Covid-19 deaths in South East Asia is probably just a blip... https://who.int/publications/m/item/weekly-epidemiological-update-on-covid-19---4-may-2023 DJ https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/the-fallacy-of-declining-sars-cov-2-infections-new-variants-after-debut,-evolve-to-cause-asymptomatic-spreads-and-are-better-adapted-for-viral-persist or https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/the-fallacy-of-declining-sars-cov-2-infections-new-variants-after-debut,-evolve-to-cause-asymptomatic-spreads-and-are-better-adapted-for-viral-persist TMN also made the point that -even with hardly any testing/sequencing remaining we still have MORE cases and MORE deaths from CoViD then when the WHO made the PHEIC declaration... "Statistics are a great way to lie"...in climate just change the baseline...so YES we do not see a 2C increase of global temperature if you go for a 1990-2000 baseline...YES-if you stop testing the cases of CoViD you detect decrease... YES...here in NL volunteers !!!!! only pick up H5N1 dead birds in urban area's...There is only very limited effort to pick up dead birds...tens of thousends- from hard to reach locations...It must be spreading in lots of mammals...but "don't look"...inconveniant realities... -There are lots of reports on wild fires (a.o. Canada, Portugal) floods DRC/Rwanda, India...El Nino may push up temperatures this year to record high...It will very likely cause even more extreme weather, decrease food/water supply, increase the number of refugees...trying to stay alive... More wars only worsen the problems...spending millions on a new "king" is insane...another mass event that can turn into a mass spread event... The number of "long/chronic CoViD cases" must be in the hundreds of millions....simply being ignored... Coffee !!! DJ-Looking at history we have seen lots of "bad moments"...in the summer of 1940 the UK was fighting hitler on its own...Trying to imagine the hell of Stalingrad https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Stalingrad#Casualties or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Stalingrad#Casualties ; It is estimated that as many as over 1 million soldiers and civilians combined were killed during the battle is unimaginable horror...Pandemics in the last 2000 years of human history sometimes meant an area got depopulated...people died or tried to get away...(often getting killed by soldiers trying to stop the spread). Silent disasters -like economic collapse, starvation- did bring horror to millions...We should learn from history...even when that history is "not nice"...We can limit horrors...closing our eyes is NOT helping... |

DJ, UK https://health-study.joinzoe.com/data or https://health-study.joinzoe.com/data UK cases increasing again...81,655 new symptomatic cases reported (calculated statistics) for may 7..Active cases just stayed above 1 million...1,034,288 active cases may 5... Dr. John Campbell on UK excess deaths https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgubA8BF3CM or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgubA8BF3CM ; Excess deaths, dramatic increase, week ending 21 April 2023 https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulati... The number of deaths registered in the UK in the week ending 21 April 2023 (Week 16) Was 14,024 22.1% above the five-year average 2,540 excess deaths, of these deaths, 615 involved COVID-19 England and Wales Week 16, 12,420 deaths were registered in England and Wales 538 of these deaths mentioned novel coronavirus (4.3% of all deaths) DJ, a lack of testing is one reason for finding less CoViD cases/deaths...also "Long CoViD" -post CoViD may simply be missed in statistics... Lancet: Indian government "wholly untrustworthy" on COVID-19 health data. Official government figures place deaths at more than 530 000, while WHO excess death estimates for 2020 and 2021 are near 4·7 million. H5N1, Here in NL https://www.omroepflevoland.nl/nieuws/332209/dode-meeuwen-zwarte-meer-hadden-zeer-besmettelijke-variant-vogelgriep or https://www.omroepflevoland.nl/nieuws/332209/dode-meeuwen-zwarte-meer-hadden-zeer-besmettelijke-variant-vogelgriep link to https://dwhc.nl/en/ or https://dwhc.nl/en/ ; The purpose of the Dutch Wildlife Health Centre is to enhance knowledge and expertise in wildlife health in the Netherlands. This will serve to provide scientifically based information for political and practical decisions concerning public health, wild and domestic animal health, and nature conservation issues. On our website you can find information about the sorts of disease found in wildlife in the Netherlands and abroad by searching in the disease or species pages. lots of birds found dead in the middle of NL were infected with H5N1 . It will spread further in mammals. Countries like Ukraine, and countries kept poor, may fail to report even basic spread... https://afludiary.blogspot.com/2023/05/wildlife-health-australia-avian-flu.html or https://afludiary.blogspot.com/2023/05/wildlife-health-australia-avian-flu.html ; Even though avian flu surveillance and reporting from around the globe are often lacking, the two FAO maps (above) help to illustrate the geographic gains H5N1 has made over the past 16 months.
While large swaths of Russia, China, and the African continent show little activity, there are political and logistical barriers to reporting outbreaks from these regions. Additionally, many nations where the virus has been endemic for years (including Egypt, and Indonesia) are no longer required to report avian flu.
Remarkably, even though H5N1 emerged in Southeast Asia more than 25 years ago, and has been widely reported across much of the Indonesian archipelago for decades, the virus has never managed to get a foothold in Oceania. - The recent move of H5N1 into previously unaffected avian species, however, may provide new opportunities for the virus to make it into Australia and surrounding areas. DJ...both CoViD and H5N1 is spreading in mammals...in theory most of the spread could stay in mammals...(why should the virus move into humans who "fight back?")...but spread in rodents only is increasing risks... |

Tuberculosis is killing more people worldwide than Covid-19 or AIDS. "Tuberculosis is the biggest infectious disease killer in the world today, taking the lives of around 4,400 people every day" link https://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/tuberculosis-surge-killing-more-people-worldwide-than-covid-19-or-aids/YB7T2FVVC5EZNGVM6VDWYCUTSM/# or https://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/tuberculosis-surge-killing-more-people-worldwide-than-covid-19-or-aids/YB7T2FVVC5EZNGVM6VDWYCUTSM/# ; Top UN officials and health industry leaders are trying to tackle an alarming surge in tuberculosis, which is now killing more people worldwide than Covid-19 or AIDS. Among the problems: a high number of cases in conflict zones, including Ukraine and Sudan, where it’s difficult to track down people with the disease and diagnose new sufferers. Tuberculosis is the biggest infectious disease killer in the world today, taking the lives of around 4400 people every day, including 700 children, Dr Lucica Ditiu, executive director of the Stop TB Partnership, said before a hearing Monday to prepare for a high-level meeting in late September during the annual gathering of world leaders at the UN General Assembly. Before Covid-19, which like TB is transmitted through the air, “we didn’t see very dramatic cases of TB,” she said, “but after Covid we saw a type of TB that we saw in … movies in which people spit blood and they are very weak, and so on.” Ditiu said the economic impact of Covid and conflicts, first and foremost in Ukraine but now also in Sudan, are having “a huge impact” on efforts to treat people with TB and diagnose new cases. Ukraine has the highest number of estimated people with TB in the European region — 34,000 — and also a high number with drug-resistant TB, she said at a news conference last week. “It’s remarkable, the fact that the Ukrainian people are actually showing an amazing resilience in doing their best to maintain the services for TB,” Ditiu said. “But obviously a lot of people left the country.” DJ...in countries we keep poor there may be NO TB-testing...most TB-cases worldwide are missed ! CoViD weakening immunity is resulting in more cases of -harder to control- TB in weaker patients...So yes...maybe "CoViD deaths" are going down in numbers...but people die from lots of other problems still with CoViD links... Another twitter from coronaheadsup; "We'll go down in history as the first society that wouldńt save itself because it was'nt cost effective" ... Of course CoViD still is a PHEIC/Pandemic !!! The WHO denial only is making-again-matters worse ! H5N1 spreading in mammals-like CoViD - is a nightmare !!! Public health should be priority #1 !!! Climate change-in fact-also has to be #1 as well...We may face "very extreme conditions" later this year with already lots of extreme weather in many places...This august may see temperatures (and humidity) that extreme it can result in massive deaths... The "big picture" is "we" as humans-are moving OUT of a survivable planet...Earth may be Venus-like within decades !!! Maybe some "basic" forms of live may survive such conditions...We will not ! Can we avoid such a scenario ? We should at least do all we can to limit damage/buy time...Going for global wars does NOT help ! US: Bird Flu in Mammals Found in big cats, mountain lions, bobcats. brown & black bears, dolphins, seals, foxes, coyotes, otters, martens, raccoons, skunks & opossums. https://aphis.usda.gov/animal_health/animal_diseases/avian/images/hpai-mammals-map.png see also https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2023/05/09/a-proclamation-on-revoking-the-air-travel-covid-19-vaccination-requirement/ or https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2023/05/09/a-proclamation-on-revoking-the-air-travel-covid-19-vaccination-requirement/ DJ-Lots of Asian countries restarting masks, testing etc. again...the "west" in full denial...Insane criminal "word games" like "mild, endemic" ... To go for a "west-rest" scenario; China continues to manage COVID-19 as a Class-B infectious disease. Other Class-B infectious diseases are SARS, Anthrax, AIDS, Typhoid, and Viral Hepatitis. Or, in layman's terms, China is still taking Covid seriously. and https://tass.com/society/1614009 or https://tass.com/society/1614009 ; MOSCOW, May 5. /TASS/. Russia’s COVID-19 case tally rose by 4,215 over the past day to 22,870,557, the anti-coronavirus crisis center reported on Friday. A day earlier, 4,273 daily cases were recorded. As many as 773 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in Russia over the past day, down 16.8% from a day earlier. The number of hospitalized patients increased in 28 regions, while in 44 regions the figure decreased. The situation remained unchanged in 13 regions. A day earlier, 929 people were rushed to hospitals. DJ https://tass.com/world/1614311 or https://tass.com/world/1614311 ; MOSCOW, May 5. /TASS/. The World Health Organization’s (WHO) decision to declare the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency is correct but anti-epidemic measures must remain in place all the same, a Russian expert told TASS on Friday. "The coronavirus is not gone. But it was quite expedient to end the public health emergency. The virus continues to circulate. It continues to be registered. But its impact on the human population is now a medical problem whereas it was a purely social problem when the coronavirus first appeared," said Dr. Gennady Onishchenko, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Vice President of the Russian Academy of Education. He recalled that the highly contagious Arcturus strain continues to circulate. "On the one hand, the WHO was right. On the other hand, the XBB.1.16 is a ‘variant of interest.’ The strain is more infectious than its direct ancestor Omicron. <…> This doesn’t mean that COVID doesn’t require any treatment," he added. and XBB.1.16 certainly is NOT the only problematic corona-variant... DJ-I expect WITHIN A YEAR !!! Sars-3 very likely to show up...Given how widespread CoViD now is in mammals (outside humans) we soon may see a new form of CoViD (with again lab-leak/blame claims/games...) Delta SARS-CoV-2 variant found in Sierra Nevada, California deer from 2021 hunt. California's first Covid infection in wildlife discovered. link https://www.mercurynews.com/2023/05/08/california-detects-first-case-of-covid-infection-in-wildlife/ or https://www.mercurynews.com/2023/05/08/california-detects-first-case-of-covid-infection-in-wildlife/ collected in 2021 means CoViD has been spreading in mammals for years !!! H5N1 is now that widespread in mammals it will find a way to spread in humans...SOON ! So...again...lots of things "we" could/should do; -limit travel (disease fly/travel) for free -Masks as a new normal...even if not perfect-the lower the viral load the better ! -Increase testing/sequencing/surveilance -Ventilation = lower viral/disease load Problem is we know what to do...we are just not doing it... |

DJ, the only important goal for humanity seems to be short term profits for a rich elite... Denial of all kinds of problems-standing in the way of making profits- is a "new normal"..."Living with out-of-control diseases?..No problem...Wars ? Some get very rich from it...In Germany the "green party" is now promoting war and coal....I see myself as environmentalist...but "green parties" in the EU/UK are an insult to decent thinking... China's fresh COVID wave raises concern of trading volume slowdown. "I think about 10% of people around me have caught it again," said a trader at a foreign bank. DJ https://health-study.joinzoe.com/data or https://health-study.joinzoe.com/data is it going up or down in the UK ???? Japan, Australia a.o. going again for all kinds of CoViD-restrictions while "living with the virus"??? Again both CoViD and H5N1 is spreading a lot in mammals-will result in new variants and a lot more problems in humans...denial does not help ! |

The UK Pensions Secretary has asked the Covid dead and injured to return to work asap. "If we can get all of those people back into work, it will increase the size of the economy by about 0.2%." DJ, the same political criminals pushing the Ukraine war, ignoring climate collapse are pushing "dying from diseases" and long CoViD... Replying to Here are the recent trends in the key stats for Victoria (log axis):
Highest cases since 13 Jan (17 weeks ago).
Highest deaths since 3 Feb (14 weeks ago). One of the reason lots of countries "see low numbers" is low/no testing...maybe there may be more asymptomatic/mild symptom spread...still lots of indications long term effects are bad still... Tja. Zeg het maar! Week 17 100 kiemsurveillance samples 11 XBB, niet zijnde XBB.1.5/9. Wat dan? XBB.1.16? XBB.2.3? DJ-in short in NL detection of "XBB not being XBB.1.5/9" so what other XBB variants is it ? https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/there-is-no-such-thing-as-long-covid-sars-cov-2-exposure-causes-persistent-infections-along-with-continuous-presence-of-short-viral-rnas-svrnas or https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/there-is-no-such-thing-as-long-covid-sars-cov-2-exposure-causes-persistent-infections-along-with-continuous-presence-of-short-viral-rnas-svrnas "divide and rule" pseudo-science came up with the idea "CoViD is limited to max 4 weeks"....following "flu-like-thinking"...while chronic infection...so "long CoViD" may be more "the norm"...It is easy to catch the virus....very hard to get rid of ! And it can do a lot of damage resulting in long lasting healthissues... But...economy/profits first ! DJ...CoViD infection damages immunity...so https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/there-is-no-such-thing-as-long-covid-sars-cov-2-exposure-causes-persistent-infections-along-with-continuous-presence-of-short-viral-rnas-svrnas or https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/there-is-no-such-thing-as-long-covid-sars-cov-2-exposure-causes-persistent-infections-along-with-continuous-presence-of-short-viral-rnas-svrnas should not be a surprise; Previously the ECDC had been publishing these highly detailed surveillance reports every 3 months (see here and here), but today - less than 60 days since the last release - they've published a summary for the months of March and April.
The HPAI H5 threat has changed substantially over the past 7 years, starting out with H5N8 in 2016, then transitioning (via reassortment) to H5N6 in 2018, and then finally to H5N1 in 2020. And with these changes in subtype came changes in its behavior.
Over time, the virus has also expanded its host range, both in mammals and wild bird species (see chart below), moving from primarily affecting waterfowl (in blue) to heavily impacting shorebirds (in green). - While H5N1 is current at the top of our hit parade, it isn't the only pandemic threat out there.
Today's report also addresses recent human infections by H3N8, H5N6, and H9N2 as well. A reminder that we live in a threat-rich environment, and we need to prepare for a variety of scenarios going forward. DJ...so what flu variants will be the next pandemic ? Politics/"governments" do nothing to stop it....both climate collapse and more wars only worsen the "background" with more refugees seeking a safe place to live...Politics trying to get the rich even more rich...pandemics as outcome of bankrupt politics... |

DJ, Since most countries now simply deny the ongoing pandemic...the WHO doing "a job" like the IPCC is doing in the climate discussian-denial...getting a realistic picture of events is getting harder... In latest news I try to get a perspective on the "west-rest-conflict" with Ukraine now as the main battle ground and "the rest" going for a long term "route' of economic/financial warfare...de-dollar-ization, denial of energy, resources to "the west" ...it may also result in a "pharma-war"... Basic ingriedients and main producers are no longer in "the west" so increase of hospital cases, new diseases may see "the west" also running out of medication...but also out of medical gloves, syringes/needles even HCW-ers ...a lot of "the west" rather "import HCW-ers" then offer a decent pay... Non-western countries seem to take PUBLIC health more serious...somehow the west thinks everything is for sale...And of course-statistics are "for sale"... https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/weekly-trends/#weekly_table or https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/weekly-trends/#weekly_table "only" just over 370,00 new cases of CoViD last week...Maybe more interesting/revealing South Korea has most new cases reported...over 127,000...next comes Australia and Japan... There are 47 countries reporting an increase of cases...some countries in the west simply stopped reporting...hardly any testing left...so "the pandemic is over" don't look up ! Do not ask questions ! A study from #Brazil finds 1 in 4 adults who had mild #COVID19 demonstrated cognitive deficits. The average age of study participants was 38. See what happened when they were asked to copy a diagram. We are not prepared for this. #MedTwitter #LongCovid https://brainfacts.org/diseases-and-disorders/covid-19/2023/the-risks-of-even-mild-covid19-1-in-4-showing-cognitive-deficits-011723#.ZDNC_dg2T9o.twitter Of course "long CoViD patients had those problems before they had CoViD"....it is also "mental" ...the "medical world can not find any science that is why they do not look".... DJ-Both ME-CFS and Long-CoViD very likely are post viral long lasting show of disease...Lots of research finds virus persisting in organs-but missed by LF/PCR testing...but that is "unwelcome info"...we also rather do not want to know the number of people dealing with long term health issues...here in NL there is "no need" for a basic administration of Long CoViD cases...it would only be an extra burden... Good thread here from showing NHS demand pressures eased somewhat in April but remain high by historical standards. l estimated 430 additional deaths a week linked to these delays between Sep and Feb. That’s fallen to 330 a week in April. https://theactuary.com/2023/05/04/wait-watchers DJ, denial of problems result in bigger problems...with growing avian flu risks both for mammals and humans we need MORE testing/sequencing...but politics defunds PUBLIC health out of a neo-liberal ideology and "war promotion".... The basic problem is politics gone mad... |

Weekly covid hospital admission vs flu hospital admission rate in England btwn Oct 2021 and May 2023. #Covid has NOT gone away! Covid still has consequences: it is adding to workplace shortages, it is contributing to long term disability, and it is worsening overstretched NHS DJ, indie_SAGE (mostly UK) also keeps reminding WHO ending PHEIC status is NOT ending by the WHO of calling CoViD a pandemic ! It "only" no longer is seen -by the WHO- as a Public Health Emergency (of International Concern)...since it is no longer "new"...And of course "politics" is a factor... WHO: South-East Asia Covid cases up 223%, deaths up by 281%. https://who.int/publications/m/item/weekly-epidemiological-update-on-covid-19---11-may-2023 and The highest numbers of new 28-day deaths were reported from the US (4680 new deaths; -36%), Brazil (1277 new deaths; +2%), the Russian Federation (955 new deaths; -3%), France (944 new deaths; +39%), and India (715 new deaths; +289%). https://who.int/publications/m/item/weekly-epidemiological-update-on-covid-19---11-may-2023 DJ Some other good points; -excess deaths in many places still high...partly because very long waitinglists...lots of people not getting care in time -one of many CoViD links in excess deaths is CoViD link with auto-immune diseases, but also diabetes...Diabetes itself a "slow killer"... New uploads from China already, so new graphs. XBB.1.16 probably dominant in Shanghai, XBB.1.9.1 in Hubei. Week 18 incomplete, plus take percentages of week 13-16 from Hubei w |

DJ technical correction..to get under the flu/CoViD hospital statistics... https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/covid-19-news-new-zealand-reports-11,739-covid-19-infections-and-58-covid-19-deaths-in-the-last-7-days or https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/covid-19-news-new-zealand-reports-11,739-covid-19-infections-and-58-covid-19-deaths-in-the-last-7-days see also https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/weekly-trends/#weekly_table or https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/weekly-trends/#weekly_table with low testing Australia and New Zealand still in relative high numbers...Lack of testing and reporting makes statistics -even for indication- of "very limited" use... https://health-study.joinzoe.com/data or https://health-study.joinzoe.com/data still may be of (some) use...DJ-Symptoms however do change, so a self reporting of symptoms-system may have a weak spot over time... https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/scientists-warn-that-sars-cov-2-spike-exhibits-extreme-plasticity-and-will-continue-to-adopt-shape-shifting-strategies-for-immunity-escape- or https://www.thailandmedical.news/news/scientists-warn-that-sars-cov-2-spike-exhibits-extreme-plasticity-and-will-continue-to-adopt-shape-shifting-strategies-for-immunity-escape- Yaneer Bar-Yam -it is his job- calculated the potential number of mutations for CoViD may run in the billions ???? "Keep Up the Fight: WHO’s Emergency Phase End Doesn’t Mean the Threat is Gone" ![]() DJ...and again! CoViD spread in mammals at high numbers very likely SOON may result in a (sort of) SARS-3 !!! With also (a.o.) H5N1 spreading from birds into mammals we are moving towards a "global health disaster" DJ-potentially WORSE then even the "black death" since spread of both SARS-types and H5N1 etc will be airborne...(black death needed fleas-so contact- for spread). Avian Flu risks; https://afludiary.blogspot.com/2023/05/eurosurveillance-avian-influenza-new.html or https://afludiary.blogspot.com/2023/05/eurosurveillance-avian-influenza-new.html ; The HPAI H5N1 virus has been with us since the mid-1990s, but the virus of today is a very distant relative of that original virus. HPAI viruses - which were common in poultry (aka `fowl plague') - had never been detected in wild or migratory birds prior to 1996. That year a previously unknown H5N1 virus (clade 0) was detected in a domestic goose in Guangdong Province, China (A/Goose/Guangdong/1/1996 (GsGD)). The following year H5N1 appeared in Hong Kong's chickens, and sparked the first human epidemic, hospitalizing 18 and killing six (see Outbreak of avian influenza A(H5N1) virus infection in Hong Kong in 1997). The bold decision to cull every chicken in Hong Kong, and the immediate isolation of cases, were credited with stopping that first outbreak. The H5 virus appeared to go to ground for the next five years, but re-emerged again in early 2003 - albeit as a new clade - in Hong Kong when two members of a family fell ill (one fatally) after returning from Fujian Province on the Mainland. A third relative died (untested) on the mainland. - Within a year, new variants of H5N1 virus caused outbreaks in poultry, wild birds, hundreds of humans, and dozens of captive animals from Beijing and Korea to Thailand and Vietnam.
And as H5N1 expanded geographically, it expanded genetically as well (see chart below), forming numerous new subtypes (e.g. H5N6,H5N8, H5N5, etc.), new clades, subclades, and genotypes. Many of these variants were less `fit' than their competition, and died out along the way, but others thrived and survived, and became the dominant clade in different parts of the world. - Over the years we've seen several sudden expansions of the H5 virus (2005, 2009, 2015-16, and most recently 2020-21). Each one occurred after a major evolutionary change to the virus (new clade or new reassortment). While today's H5N1 virus is thankfully not spilling over into humans at the rate same we were seeing in the mid 2000s (see chart below), it is far better suited for long distance carriage by migratory and wild birds, has spread globally at a phenomenal rate, and continues to experiment with new mammalian hosts. While the future course and impact of HPAI H5N1 is unknowable - and the threat may recede as it has in the past - these recent developments are red flags we can't afford to ignore. DJ, CoViD weakening immunity creating an extra risk... We are now already with record high number of refugees...politics promoting war will only worsen it...Climate collapse is a major killer...lots of diseases already very hard to control... We URGENTLY !!!! need to change the way we live if we want to have even a remote chance of human survival.... |

Italy; Covid outbreak on an Italian mink farm. Yes, it's 2023, and we are still allowing mink farming to endanger global human health. mink-link https://news.italy24.press/covid-19/531951.html or https://news.italy24.press/covid-19/531951.html ; Covid outbreak in a mink farm in Calvagese della Riviera: more than 1,500 will have to be slaughtered. This is what the ordinance of May 3 of the Ministry of Health provides, and from May 6 in the Official Gazette, implemented by Ats Brescia – the health authority – which therefore ordered the definitive demolition. The outbreak, according to the Ministry’s ordinance, was identified on 26 April as part of the periodic surveillance activity in mink farms where, we recall, positives had already been detected in the European Union since the end of October 2020. Sars-Cov2 virus. DJ, The outbreak is in the north of Italy (Brescia/Lake Garda) Several riders out of Giro d'Italia with Covid-19. Overall leader Remco Evenepoel abandoned the Giro d'Italia on Sunday after testing positive for COVID-19, the Belgian rider said on Sunday. - DJ - hate sports - still masks return to the cycling "round of Italy" ...so maybe the runners were in the "mink area"...did the mink-CoViD in Italy spread into humans ? -------- DJ, lots of NPI-Non Pharma Interventions are under YOUR control ! YOU decide on where you use a mask ! YOU decide on what events you visit YOU decide on ventilation in your location YOU decide on where to work or study (Okay...a bit optimistic...not everyone is willing to wear safety glasses and a gasmask in the office...but the basic point is YOU have options !) |
