Mexico confirms new swine flu death; toll at 75

5/20/2009, 6:36 p.m. EDT The Associated Press 

(AP) — MEXICO CITY - Mexico is reporting a new confirmed swine flu death, raising the toll to 75 nationwide.

The Health Department says tests confirmed 158 cases of swine flu-including the death-for a total of 3,892.

Mexico's confirmed toll has been steadily rising as scientists test a backlog of samples from patients.

But the government says the epidemic is in decline. Only seven of the 74 dead got swine flu after April 23, when the new strain was identified and officials declared emergency measures.

The Health Department announced the new toll in a statement Wednesday.
