New York’s coronavirus death toll in nursing homes, already among the highest in the nation, could actually be a significant undercount. Unlike every other state with major outbreaks, New York only counts residents who died on nursing home property and not those who were taken to hospitals and died there.

That statistic could add thousands to the state’s official care home death toll of just over 6,600, from the over 25,200 COVID-19 deaths the state has recorded overall. But so far the administration of Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo has refused to divulge the number.

Well it was such a stunningly good idea to send positive COVID 19 patients to nursing homes full of the most vulnerable. While temporary hospitals in NY were virtually empty and unused no less FFS.  Yeah follow the science and listen to the "experts"

As a survivor who kept working at my program as a New York resident during the height of the Covid-19 assault, I feel a need to clarify a few things.  First off the ICU equipped beds in New York and ventilators had very nearly run out.  You cannot just put people who are deathly ill in a bed with no equipment or healthy staff to keep them alive.  When the disease broke it was a miracle, brought by the lockdown and the resultant efforts and sacrifices of the people.

Governor Cuomo is generally for this highly regarded here.  His two months of "pure hell" where he never took a day off from reporting to the people  I agree that his one major mistake may have been allowing hospital Covid discharges to nursing homes.  However I must also point out that this mistake was also done all over the world, with especially high losses in Europe.  Also he was acting on guidance from the CDC, also at fault.  Just keep in mind that the healthcare system in New York City came very close to collapse.  At my worksite north of the city only a few of us retained the nerve to even keep coming in.  Many are still working from home even now.
