DJ

In the US (not that United...and there is a major problem in that) vaccines, masks, did get (very) political...

How to deal with people refusing vaccines ? Calling them names makes matters worse ! Trying to understand their reasons is at least a start !

http://www.thebigwobble.org/2021/08/a-letter-to-unvaccinated.html or http://www.thebigwobble.org/2021/08/a-letter-to-unvaccinated.html gives an insight on why some people may not want vaccines.

Some choices;

-It would be welcome if there are other ways of vaccinations...Some people may accept a nasal spray, a vaccine-per-pill, microneedle plaster sticking on your arm-put there by yourself...

-Communication will be needed during all of this crisis. If you only talk with those that allready agree on vaccines, masks etc..you are doing a bad job. Try to inform those that you did not get in contact with ! Here in NL busses are used to get into poorer area's...sometimes language is a problem (both for people with foreign background and people that have problems in reading...). Some other countries also use this way to get into contact...

-Orthodox religion groups; talk to their leaders. In Israel some more orthodox were willing to get vaccinated...(maybe men vaccinating men, women vaccinating women...If that is the problem vaccines are the priority !) Here in NL in some orthodox christian groups openly going for a vaccine may not be accepted, but seeing your GP and getting the vaccine there is much less a problem...

-And yes-there will be groups still against vaccinations...! This world is far from perfect ! But some of them may agree on alternatives as self isolation...also better than conflict !

DJ-In my opinion the wrong choice is starting another fight over vaccinations...Why the % in the US not willing to accept vaccines is that extreme (40% ?)-and why in NL it may be even less then 10% ? (Even when you look at agegroup 12 y/o+ !)

Social science may be of help ! Vaccination in "Afro-American/Hispanic" communities is a different problem then in "my good natural immunity "super humans"....

Stop fighting start thinking ! Stop shouting start talking !

For the US (a.o.) it would be welcome if vaccinated and unvaccinated could agrree on less airtravel (even if it was for different reasons...vaccinated trying to keep the virus out, some unvaccinated keeping foreigners out...result may less import of virus/variants...).

A right to study/work from home "is freedom" may be another point of discussion...

DJ Vaccination is only one part of a strategy...a productive confrontation may still bring results that are effective ! China did control this pandemic without vaccines-vaccination came later..We need much more then (leaky) vaccines !

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
