I know there is some concern from dog owners on how to limit dog exposure to bf once it reaches our country. Even if bf is not h2h when it reaches us, it still is a significant threat to mammals. Some people are considering ways to keep dogs indoors as much as possible. In light of that, I will share this link. Thanks justme, I wasn't sure how to deal with the possibilty of keeping my dog indoors. ------------- It's not so much the apocalypse... but the credit card bills ;-) |

| I bought 2 of these a month ago, I haven't tried them yet. When I slow down a bit I will take time and find a place to put them and start the process of training. I have 3 dogs 2 beagles and 1 german sherperd. I also bought the stuff that you put down that attract the dogs to that area. You can buy drops or spray. |

Remember that there is almost no chance that your dogs will get this flu. The dog flu (that came from horses) that is making the rounds in the US now is the first documented flu virus that dogs have ever caught. And once the bird flu mutates to human flu, we'll only be able to catch it from other people. The only possible case of a dog with bird flu is obviously not proven as it doesn't show up on the WHO's timeline of cases. If wild birds bring H5N1 to the US it will still only be a flu that effects birds, not other animals or humans. Unless it mutates to adapt to another species here. And that's rare. Cats seem to be more prone to catching the bird flu, so it's wise to keep cats indoors when H5N1 shows up here in wild birds. But that's so people lesson the chance of their cats either possibly catching the flu and dying or acting as a mixing vessel and then giving it to people. That seems even more unlikely as I haven't heard (though I haven't researched) of any humans ever catching a flu virus from a cat. Cats certainly spread a lot of nasties to people, but not flu.
Flu viruses very, very, very rarely jump species. So don't worry too much about cats/dogs/birds/bats, etc. even when the bird flu jumps to people. There will be almost no chance other species, besides humans, will be spreading it around.

I know that I will NOT be keeping my dogs indoors, even if we have a pandemic. There is no way that my youngest German Shepherd would be content to stay inside. He gets bored very easily. When that happens, he starts destoying things. A little while ago, he tore a wire off of the antenna outside the house. I heard a noise and went running outside, and there he was with the wire hanging out of his mouth. If he wasn't such a great watchdog, he would already be dead.  |

I was just venting my frustrations. He is really a wonderful working dog. However, he does live up to his nick name "psycho-dog" quite well.  |
