The first thing to disappear is sanity. People are going to panic. I say panic early and stay safe. Buy some long term canned foods. Fill the cars up with petrol. Get some face masks and goggles. Sensible stuff Albert i think we are at, or very close to defcon 4.. This virus look like it could be unstoppable. There are creditable reports people are infected and don't know because the virus is a dosen't show up straight away. They are all coming back from Chinese new year.. The panic alone will cause chaos. |

| Reading Albert’s “this is it” put me in gear. Ive never seen any premature alarmist post to make me doubt him. Always an appropriate amount of concern. (Thank you Albert) I’ve been reading and learning off and on on AFT for 9+ years. Ive prepped in stages. Today, I ordered medications that I would have never I imagined doing. Choosing meds over more food because I am now concerned about secondary infections and hospital viral exposure for something like an ear infection or a sinus infection, especially if waves last for 6 months. Trying to think of odds and ends. Things shipped from China that will not be available or we will not want to touch. Also trying to think of things that will have some use later use so I can ease my anxiety and credit card balance (mentioned in another post). Seems a bit surreal. Bought some chocolate and Oreos and started a “comfort cabinet” for treats and those things that sound good when sick, Sprite/7-up, ready made gelatin cups (I do not buy prepackaged processed foods often or soda). Last minute tasks like filling water containers after the first case in my local area, filling gas cans, making sure electronic devices like e-readers are charged (again, sanity and luxury thing to have). Last minute task lists started, if we have to SIP, like more fresh foods we buy weekly, some that would last longer like onions, carrots, potatoes, apples, lemons and more food staples. Anyone else have last minute list ideas? |

I had a list on Friday spent almost $600.00 and I am prepped! Most spent on meds I have used up or out of date. I purchase jello boxes but I have all of that stuff in #10 dehydrated/freeze dry. I have a lot of stuff! I have a few items to get if I really have to lock down. I just purchased a new small shed to put more gas in from Amazon to replace a really small shed that holds only 3-.2.5 gallons of gas. I will keep at least 12 of those when I get the small shed. That would give me enough gas to be sure I can get anywhere in my area to get water and anything else I need. hoosiermom22 use Stable in you gas so it will not go bad...gas will go bad. If this looks like a long haul I am thinking of getting more wood for my stove soon. They have plenty just need to order it. |

Buy more chocolate. Store it in mason jars with O2 absorbers. It keeps it from oxidizing and keeps fresh for a very long time. But to me, chocolate is its own food group.

Update as of 2/5/20 also low stock/ “only __ left” for the most popular/best rated /price #10 cans of others, or “will be in stock on____” for other staples like beef, cheese and eggs. I’ve just been monitoring supplies that would be the “first 100 to go” or things people may want to purchase online incognito or harder to find items. Post 911, post Katrina world, people can poke fun of prepping around the water cooler and they go home at night and run up their charge cards on Amazon ! Lol. |

I am going back over my list now and thinking about what we get from China, because it may disappear over the next few months. Things like: Toothpaste Toothbrushes Floss Any small electronics or home appliances All types of clothing Vitamins and medicines (discussed in other threads already) Some things are not vital to survival, but if the supply chain is disrupted for 6-12 months, we may wish we stocked up. The list is pretty long. As one of our friends said in another thread...Get your Target orders in now! QP |

We probably have some time still. Why not keep a diary of all the things you use this week? Add candles/torches/lamps and some form of heating/cooking in case of outages. Everyone's list will be different, but that is the basis of your own preps. That should reveal any holes in your planning. |

Regarding masks..... I was consulting Infection Control Coordinator for one of the largest and newest hospitals in Chicago, seeking to safeguard immune-compromised organ transplant patients from infection. There are many misconceptions about masks, and this was published today: Bruce Ribner, MD, medical director of the Serious Communicable Diseases Unit at Emory University Hospital, said the two masks serve very different functions. A surgical mask, or procedural mask, is meant to protect the environment from the wearer. "It's meant to keep the surgeon's respiratory issues away from a patient," Ribner explained. A surgical mask does a good job of trapping large droplets, and some aerosol transmission, he said. Many of the masks being worn in China, though, are not designed for medical use or to any standards and so their effectiveness in trapping droplets is unknown. A respirator, such as an N95, fits tighter to the face and is meant to help protect the wearer from inhaling infectious droplets in the environment. |

| #10 cans of eggs on Amazon gone for a few days, freeze dry meats literally shot up in price from one seller (in my cart) $45/can to >$100/can in the past 12 hours. Dry cans of butter powered now shooting up in price it looks or limited in availability. (Had both sitting in my cart). The prepping website sellers (beprepared.com, augason farms) all have things on back order and “longer than usual order processing” On there home pages. I suspect the cheese powders and milks to increase in price. So I encourage you if you had been planning on purchasing these type of staples to do so soon to avoid price gouging or panic buying shortages. |

Amazon does price gouge when an item is popular. Best to go to sources like beprepared.com, augusonfarms.com and honeyville.com. They might be higher in price than you're accustomed to paying, but the prices are more stable. |

Yes agreed! My point is that ordered must be going up meaning people are paying attention! And hopefully preparing. Some of those direct sellers are also publishing high volumes and delays in processing. Hopefully those preparing now for potential disruptions, will leave some supplies on the selves at the local big box stores for those who have not. |

Ha, I went to purchase the Lowes masks someone posted on here the other day and they were all out, so Lowes gave me another option, a box for around $20 bucks, put them in my online cart and then started to check out...SHIPPING BY TRUCK (the only way they could come here according to the website) was $75! Oh heck no... My son, who owns a building supply store, is getting me some. I didn't want to bother him (known as he worries about me too much) and ask, but after that I did. He was upset, like why? why? and I said 'better to have them and not need them, then the other way around" |

Ordered my gloves and goggles from Amazon yesterday. I am somewhat familiar with surgery protocols (was a surgeon's aid - not a nurse- for 10 years in the Navy, then switched to Aviation..lol) as far as maintaining a sterile field. I set up some wire cook's shelves in my extra bedroom and they are filling up fast with "things I might need and do need". Got in enough dog food to last a few months. I want to have enough for son and dil, but he is so hard headed and also doesn't want me to "freak" out that I doubt he will listen to me anyways. Don't know what to do about it, except hope for the best, since they are both young |

Sam's club website has been wonky all day - shopping cart not loading, etc. So that sent me scurrying to the store a day earlier than planned. In the store though, I didn't notice any gaps. I didn't notice any masks, but did see plenty of gloves and plenty of disinfectants. And no gaps in any of the food or paper products either. |
