I want to purchase Plywood to put on the outside of my windows in case I ever need it for crazy people or a broken window. Do I purchase OSB or Plywood Sheathing? Do I get the thicker 23/32 or thiner 15/32?

I need a person who knows this stuff to tell me what I need!!! Thank you for the help.

I have some experience with both. OSB does not do well if it gets wet. If you use it, make sure it is painted on both sides and the edges to seal out water. If I had a choice, I would use plywood and paint it. As for the thickness, if someone is really determined, they will get through either one, use good wood screws to attach it and it should work as a good deterrent and slow them down at least long enough for you to prepare a warm welcome for them!

Thanks, I will paint and that is what it is for to slow them down.

FluMom _ Ask the guys at Lowes or Home Depot for 3/4 Inch AB marine-grade, pressure treated plywood! It's expensive but it's what the U.S. Navy made PT boats out of and is approved for salt water applications! Unpainted it will last outdoors for years! Fair winds!

Well, to be honest, I'm not sure, Flumom, if plywood will really be necessary. I assume you don't live in the Bronx, East LA, or South Chicago. It seems a bit of overkill, but I could be wrong. The virus is not going to hit with hurrican force.

Looking at the videos out of China, and even Italy, it seems people just want to flee a lockdown zone, rather than attack their neighbors for food, so that's what I'd expect. If 80% can get the virus and stay healthy, especially those 40 and younger, the police force will be still ready to respond. More than likely, the issues will be at the hospitals, the tent areas for treatment, or the triage centers. That could be a total mess.

Better than plywood, and even a gun, because it scares threats off before they get too close? A dog. A big, barking dog. I wouldn't go out and get a dog just for COVID-19 though.

Have a small dog who barks at everything. I just worry so I over kill everything. If my shed will hold the plywood I will most likely get it. I watch too many movies!!!

FluMom, a better plan is to keep one eye on an exit path and be prepared to bug out if necessary.  Have a "mutual aid agreement" with a friend or entity where you can scoot to and get shelter, pronto.

My wife and I moved from a major metropolitan suburb to a small town in Arizona, about 30 miles from the Mexican border.  If we had to, we'd bug out down there.  I speak decent Spanish and would consider getting a Mexican passport, that could get you into any country in the world.  To hell with the politics.

If people are so crazy as to beat on plywood windows, you will have problems.  Nothing that an AR-15 can't resolve.  Just saying.   I believe in all-hazards preparedness.

Be safe, hon!

Bugging out....

I have a bug out bag almost filled with luxury - it even has a tent.

So what if I am mugged for it? I have a fishing jacket under my coat filled with goodies - not comfortable but ok.

And if they take that too, or I am mugged a second time?

Scalpel blade, line + hooks, wax matches, wire saw, Under my wig. No one finds that.
