Do microwaves kill virus or is it the heating of the food above that 104F I read about do the job?

The latter.

In theory microwaves could inactivate virus, but it would be a scatter gun in a flock of geese and most would get through.  It is the temperatures that actually do the trick.

I thought about that, but I couldn’t close the door no matter how much I squeezed myself in there.

Sorry...

Microwaves will disrupt the RNA and protein of the virus, even without increasing the temperature.  We use microwaves to sterilize certain medical products that cannot tolerate high-temp autoclaves or chemical disinfection.

Microwave away.

Thanks CRS. There has been some question about restaurant deliveries.  My thought was if it was microwaved before eating, it would be safe.  Glad to know my pandemic addled brain is still reasoning clearly.

Well just get 3 or 4 microwaves and position them around you after taking the doors off and jamming the safety mechanism and bingo you've got your own COVID19 anti infection spa.  Much like any tanning salon or spa but from the inside out, but you'll want to keep it under 5 minutes or you may burn your internal organs, individual responses may vary.

Also some minor side effects may or may not be noticed such as blindness temporary and or permanent,  sterility, insanity, irrationality, irritability as well as coulrophobia has been documented in a small percentage(89%) of users.

And your children will have flippers.  But that might be a plus with sea levels rising.

You are probably at much higher risk of conventional foodborne pathogens = salmonella from poultry/eggs, E. Coli from beef, norovirus from poor hand sanitation etc.

I always wash fresh produce at home in soap & water and rub dry with paper towel.  Since we don't eat rare beef or meat, we are at low risk of E. Coli & Salmonella, but these things can contaminate the entire kitchen environment.

Considering that restaurants may be making do with stand-in labor, I'd use caution.  We are not eating out right now.

I did ask a similar question about Masks

Putting them in microwave to clean them,

Techno advised against as they could melt,

Could you spray masks with a dilution of bleach or methalated spirits ?or vodka ......rather be  drinking the  voddie though....

Just had a dirty martini made with "Old Tom" gin  #

Drinking the spirits is definitely better!

I happen to have an ozone generator, because my brother needed it to get the cigarette smell out of his apartment. I'm going to build an enclosure for disinfecting mail, etc.

Speaking as one who is utterly smashed., there is no peer for an 'Old Tom' maritni, slightly wet and very, very dirty. Who cares if we die tomorrow?

 life is for living.

So drink the vodka, or better still gin, and if you die at least you go happy.

In the end we all die. Enjoy the ride first.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rVnqAOp90k - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rVnqAOp90k

I built an ozone chamber yesterday for disinfecting my mail. Basically you let it run for an hour until the ozone reaches a very high level and kills any bacteria or viruses.

I like it. We ozonated the sodium bicarbonate mixing/delivery system at a dialysis clinic I used to work at. Smelled terrible but worked like a charm - killed everything it touched.

Odd thing is... if you have a SoClean to disinfect your cpap mask and machine, it does so by ozone.  I wonder if you could disinfect mail and other small items in it...?  Thoughts?

Just bought a small ozone maker for use in a sterilizer box for mail and masks and a big one for "whatever".

Sorry, credit card!

If you do have a source for these masks, the nurses in hospitals have a dire need for them!!
