I'm not sure I would trust it alone, that mask looked as if its holes were way too large - I could see them!  But It would make a great outer layer, or the 'meat' in a cloth sandwich.

They didnt' look like holes.  More of a "waffle" effect to give the mask more surface area to contain whatever it is that's killing virus.

They are not holes.  They are tiny batteries that have an electrical charge when wet.  If droplets land on them, zap!

I've been mostly a lurker this time around, but was a member 10 years or so ago, we used to talk a lot about health care back then. I feel bad about not contributing this time around, and plan to work on that.

I appreciate the work of people on this forum, I was trying to give warning starting in late January thanks to the people here.

This mask concept made me think we need to be more open to investing in ideas that are less medically invasive. If this could be cheep enough, easily mass produced, and reusable, I think it could be a game changer for places like prisons, meat packing facilities etc. 

What about the eyes, I understand a lot of people get it from the eyes.

They're working on a disposable filter and a disposable mask, and they mention affordability. 

There is also a much simpler  version which is just a mask coated with a salt solution.  Been around since 2017 and  has recently been tested and shown to kill coronavirus in minutes.

 No batteries.  Basically a salt solution is coated onto the mask.  If droplet lands on mask the salt will enter that droplet and deactivates the virus.  Protects wearer from contracting or passing on virus.

Interesting. That sounds more affordable and practical. I really think we should be working harder on these types of solutions. 

I would like to hear thoughts on what school will look like in January. I have read that every school lunch will be a super spreader event. I have also heard that everyone will have such mild symptoms or be asymptomatic that it shouldn't impact schools much worse than it has in the past. We already have  major teacher/bus driver/ cleaning etc shortages. What do you expect?

If the schools go the same way as the health service then the problem will be with staff being exposed to a positive case and self isolating. I saw in the British press two days ago that they were estimating about 40% of health care workers in the London area were off on any given day at the moment because of this. And they were suggesting that the shortage of staff was the problem, not the number of patients. I can certainly see this kind of staffing dilemma affecting all sorts of public services from schools to electrical supplies. 

At my nieces school in the Greater London area, they tested all pupils and staff on the same day and found that a third of them were positive.

Thank you for the info; Wow. 30%. We are doing nothing at all. No masks, no testing, no tracing, no distancing.  "Stay home if you are sick", students are told. Staff is told, "try your very best to be here. "  I have no idea how this is supposed to work, but here we are.
