Doctors in Northern California say they have seen more deaths from suicide than they’ve seen from the coronavirus during the pandemic.

“The numbers are unprecedented,” Dr. Michael deBoisblanc of John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, California,  https://abc7news.com/suicide-covid-19-coronavirus-rates-during-pandemic-death-by/6201962/" style="box-sizing: border-box; color: rgb(0, 123, 255) !important; text-decoration: none; background-color: transparent; touch-action: manipulation; font-family: Montserrat, sans-serif !important; font-size: 1rem !important; - DeBoisblanc said he believes it’s time for California officials to end the stay-at-home order and let people back out into their communities.

"Personally, I think it's time," he said. "I think, originally, this was put in place to flatten the curve and to make sure hospitals have the resources to take care of COVID patients. We have the current resources to do that, and our other community health is suffering."

Kacey Hansen, a trauma center nurse at John Muir Medical Center for more than 30 years, says she’s worried not only about the increased suicide attempts but also about the hospital’s ability to save as many patients as usual.

"What I have seen recently, I have never seen before," Hansen said. "I have never seen so much intentional injury."

Oh, this is tragic. My son has suffered acutely from anxiety during our quarantine (he has Asperger’s as well)... I can see how the isolation can affect people to this extent.  The question is, where is the line? How do we protect people’s mental health while safeguarding the general population’s physical health?

My thought on this is we have given hospitals time to get Vents in, PPE in and anything else they need when the second wave hits.  NY, Denver, and any other city that has a convention center set up to take Covid patients  better keep them up for the second wave.   To me this stay at home was time to get ready for the next wave.  We were not ready in March now we should be so we should be open with people social distancing, masks for who will wear masks, hand washing and old coot's like me staying at home.

https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2020/05/fewer-suicides-in-first-two-months-of-lockdown-police-figures-show/ DJ-In NL the numbers may go up if the damage gets clear. (People losing jobs, bankruptcy etc).

Suicide-in my opinion-is always tragic-losing hope.
