The news analysis from BBC shows how the case load of covid-19 infections in the USA are still rising, although there are wide regional differences.   Interestingly, for me, the current hot spots are along the Canadian boarder, but Canada is not spurting ahead like the USA is.

One encouraging thing, and it may be because of more testing, is that the case fatality rates for the second peak of infections were a lot lower than for the first peak.

Of concern is the rising infection rates are giving hints of a third wave:  In this definition the first wave peaked in April, then down to a trough in June, back up to a peak at the end of July and August.  Back down a second time in early September, but slowly rising from there on.

For now.  We are only at the beginning of the second wave.
