There are also reports of both H5N8 and H5N5 in Germany and the Netherlands. Both H5N8 and H5N5 can become a risk for humans. Infection could start from working-direct contact with (dead) birds as well via bird droppings. Also indirect contact-via cats, dogs, swine-eating dead infected birds can be a risk.

So far H5N8 and H5N5 infections in humans did cause mild illness-but it is feared to be of increased risk.
