I found this study that tried to figure out which patients would have long Covid.  They found that age and sex were related to long Covid, but also number of symptoms during the first week of illness. 

Patients who have more than 5 symptoms the first week seem to have a greater risk of long Covid.  Also, older women seem to be at greater risk.  

It is an interesting read.

Inflammation is key.  Old people have more inflammation than young people, in general, and although premenopausal women have less inflammation than men of equivalent age, once they enter menopause, they no longer produce estrogen and progesterone, which protect them from inflammation, so they are very prone to inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, heart disease and diabetes, and within 8 years of menopause, usually catch up to the rates for those conditions of men of an equivalent age.

I did read something a few weeks ago that suggested menopausal women taking HRT were faring better then their peers who weren't taking HRT, so presumably the hormone factor is key in that age bracket of women.

This is why I think a post from Chuck might be one of the most crucial to those who get the virus.

Scroll all the way to the bottom for Chuck's post, where he talks about various biologics like Otezla and Embrel that looked promising.  I wonder how that study turned out?
