Bare-faced manslaughter

I'm about as libertarian as you can be when it comes to personal freedom. I don't believe in a nanny-state. I do believe you should be able to do pretty much anything you want as long as you don't hurt anyone else. But I'm not an anarchist. The different between a freedom-lover and an anarchist is that the former accepts that there must be some rules and laws to prevent chaos and harm to others, but the latter does not.

If the only harm to not wearing a mask in public was to the individual that was bare-faced, I'd say "Go ahead, it's your life." But that is not the case.

Someone who is not wearing a mask may harm others. The masks that are available to most people are not of sufficient quality to protect the wearers from infection from people not wearing a mask. But if everyone wears a mask, everyone is safer. If someone doesn't wear a mask, infects someone else, and they die, isn't the bare-faced person guilty of manslaughter? Seems to me that they are.

Don't blame the victim

Over 500,000 Americans have died of SARS-2. There are lots of people we can blame for this. But one group of people should not be blamed - the people who died.

I continue to see "warnings" from public health officials saying something like "If the American people don't do what we tell them, the pandemic will get worse." We heard those same warnings during the Trump administration. They didn't work. The pandemic got worse. The first 500,000 deaths were blamed on the Trump administration at the polls in November. The next 500,000 American deaths will be blamed on the Biden administration. Blaming the victim didn't work in 2020. It won't work now.

Undeclared War

The United States has been on the receiving end of surprise attacks on a number of cases, most famously Pearl Harbor. Although our leaders were derelict in their preparations leading up to the attack, they would respond vigorously shortly after the attack. However, the most recent attack on America, by Xi Jinping's China, has received no response despite the death of over 500,000 Americans. At Xi Jinping's order, the Chinese government deliberately gave false information to US officials:

"The Chinese government was not sharing useful data with anyone in the world. The World Health Organization was parroting misinformation about this virus. They were claiming that it is not featuring significant human-to-human spread. They continued for weeks, even months, to claim that there was not a significant amount of asymptomatic spread. So that misled our public health experts."

The Chinese government, and their stooges at the WHO, also argued vociferously that the airports should remain open. Although President Trump did eventually impose some mild travel restrictions, they were too little, too late.

Xi Jinping knew exactly what the consequences of his actions would be. Whether or not you believe that the virus is of natural origin, whether or not you believe it came from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, you cannot question that Xi Jinping deliberately fed US officials false information that directly led to the deaths of 500,000 Americans. What has his punishment been for this genocide? Nothing. The fact that he has deliberately launched a war of extermination on all non-Han humans has not even been acknowledged.

In a war, the President of the United States is our Commander-in-Chief. He is responsible for defending the US against all threats, foreign and domestic. President Trump failed in this responsibility. I believe that  is why he is no longer the President. I sincerely hope that our new Commander-in-Chief recognizes that we are in a war to the death with Xi Jinping's government and begins to respond to the attack. We must close our international borders, now. We must eradicate the virus within our borders through whatever measures are necessary. We must punish Xi Jinping and his government for his crimes to attempt to deter further attacks. And we must prepare for more attacks should our efforts at deterrence fail. In this war, public health officials are, to a significant extent, the Generals who the Commander-in-Chief must rely on to fight the war. If these generals fail us, and many have, they should be quickly replaced. The first step to winning a war is to recognize that we are in one.

There are some idiots who are attacking random Chinese-Americans. I do not know what their motivation is. But they are for sure not patriots. For any young person who is angry about the attack on the US and wants to exact revenge, I have one suggestion: Enlist. You will be given the training you need to take the fight to the enemy and given the opportunity to distinguish yourself on the field of battle.

The thing is, the American people didn't uniformly do what the government said to do in 2020. Many didn't wear masks.  Many wore masks incorrectly, (off their nose, no nose clips, etc.). Many went out on vacation or to other super-spreader situations.  In other countries, people stayed home and stayed put.

The thing is, honestly, although I would have expected better, the fact is, from what I have witnessed, people suck at taking care.  I worked in food service the majority of my adult life.  Over the years, I saw that handwashing with hot water and soap for at least 20 seconds, something we are all taught to do very young, is a task that is beyond the skill and interest level of most people.  In nearly 23 years, I saw hundreds of people wash their hands.  I can count on two hands the number that actually did it right and long enough in all that time.  Wearing a mask properly, even with a pandemic going on, is of course, beyond them also.  Staying away from people they do not live with, likewise.

I hesitated to share this since I disagree with many of the issues monotreme brought up.
I too feel that the American people did not do what they needed to do.
And to this day - they still don't.
Don't dare mention the word lockdown.

I post all of the time what I see here in my community, especially with the staff who are in direct contact daily with elderly people. Just the other day, one of the housekeepers who delivers our lunch to 125 people- I opened my door fully masked as always and she had her mask pulled down completely and was shouting down the hall, she kept her mask down for the rest of the deliveries down my hall.
She really doesn't give a toss about what kind of job she is doing.
