Having said that we vaccinate for measles , because if not you could go 

blind,

deaf,

dumb,

and /or have all sorts of medical problems for life.......

I think eventually one variant will slay the other variants and eventually it will become a relatively harmless cold.  But we're not there yet...

Well you COULD go blind etc, but the vast majority don't. The vast majority are fine.

Yes, the vast majority are fine.  But that's no consolation to the ones who are not, or their parents.  There is enough unavoidable suffering in the world, why not prevent the avoidable suffering?

Two of my cousins were born with PKU before infants began regularly being tested for it.  The oldest was born with mental retardation and his brother was born hearing-impaired.  My aunt and uncle had incredible personal and financial hardship because of this, that parents now are spared, because of the testing that we now take for granted,  just as an example.  PKU is very rare, also.  But it causes alot of misery.

I looked up that movie, Carbon.  The plot is not my style, but what an All-Star cast, eh?

DZ, I understand what you are saying and what is being said.  I know of three families who were impacted by the german measles in the 1960's.  One family lost a child, one family's child was born with severe mental retardation issues and one was born with hearing loss.  It's a horrible situation to have to deal with, as there are additional expenses to bear.  COVID is hell on earth.....
