This article appears in the UK's Daily Mail today. It's great news saying that Covid cases are falling dramatically and less than 20 people a day are being sent to ICUs as Covid is not causing serious illness in most.

That is good news. Of course throughout the pandemic by far and away the vast majority of people didn't have serious effects from covid or require hospitalization. But the media sure made everyone think they did. And anyone who says that the media didn't push covid fear porn is flat out in denial of reality. Facts over fear.

In December 2020, through the Franklin Templeton-Gallup Economics of Recovery Study, we asked 5,000 U.S. adults: "As far as you know, what percentage of people who have been infected by the coronavirus needed to be hospitalized?" Only 18% provided the correct answer, which at that time was between 1% and 5%, and a higher percentage of Republicans (26%) gave the correct response than did Democrats (just 10%).

For unvaccinated hospitalization risk, 2% of Democrats responded correctly, compared with 16% of Republicans. In fact, 41% of Democrats replied that at least 50% of unvaccinated people have been hospitalized due to COVID-19.

And between 1% and 5% hospitalization rate is a hell of a spread which means they didn't really know with any real accuracy what the hospitalization rate was, but it was low. Lets face the fact also the US's covid data compilation was completely S$%T throughout the pandemic. And still is.
