This is video by The Canadian Prepper discussing whether China is actually hiding a nastier disease or variant than Omicron. It's certainly food for thought.

KiwiMum, interesting video...like the T-shirt; "Extinction is the rule, survival is the exception".....

A few "one-liner/new term" "boomer-remover" (min. 20) Covid "meant to" kill the older/vulnerable people seen as a burden. May explain UK conservative thugs...UK, Ireland hospitals a.o. also running out of beds...

"Preparedness is awareness" -being in the know...so you do not end up with a house full of toiletpaper but without food...

However; I think there may be to much focus on China-to little on what is happening in other places-also running into crises..Also-maybe-SARS-2 could no longer be the main problem (besides climate collapse, the Canadian prepper is correct-in many ways we are already in World War Three...however he is VERY WRONG !!!! in believing the "west" 10% is in any position to get a real grip on the rest-90%...we messed diplomacy up, we created a financial mess...the west is at the mercy of the rest...my view).

I think all kinds of other infectious diseases (and cancer, viral links ????) may run out of control...

 1. Requiring negative COVID-19 tests on direct entry from China is unlikely to make any material difference to the number of cases in the UK. This is because the UK is doing little to control transmission internally, and large numbers of infections presumably arrive from other countries (and equally, spread from the UK to other countries). When attempted in the past, even with a much wider range of countries, this policy has not been effective in keeping prevalence low – this has only worked when implemented as part of a comprehensive quarantine policy.

DJ, "we" have given up on testing so ran out of samples for sequencing...https://twitter.com/JosetteSchoenma/status/1611496472507453440 or https://twitter.com/JosetteSchoenma/status/1611496472507453440 - https://twitter.com/JosetteSchoenma/status/1611496472507453440 lots of variants are spreading from lots of regions...it is not "just" China...

SARS-3 very likely is NOT XBB.1.5 still binding to ACE-2 receptors but "CoViD 2023/SARS-3" may be developing right now (maybe even in bats...again) binding to other receptors...H5N1 is "out of control" -jumping towards mammals -including humans- in a form very likely a matter of months...

So-in general this Canadian prepper may be -even- to optimistic in believing it is "only China"...

He mentioned Canada sending virus-samples (I believe it was in 2019) to the Wuhan-lab for research...And things can go wrong during packing/transport (sometimes radio-active materials for medical use are packed bizarre...). Do "lab leaks" happen ? I think yes....

In Wuhan you have (at least) two bio-labs... A high risk (grade 4) lab supposed to do international research... Western countries outsource high risk studies a.o. to Wuhan ...China gets a lot of money for it... Problem could be the high-risk lab running out of research capacity...So some high risk study may end up at a grade-1 bio-lab also in Wuhan...NOT supposed to do high risk studies (a.o. gain-of-function studies. Those studies are needed to see how risky some virus-variants are...There may be limited ways to replace all of it with computer models).

-Genocide -of the old and sick- by pandemic called "boomer remover" as a strategy ? Different kinds of guilt; Most criminal would be developing such virusses...point is you may not be able to "control" the bio-weapon...In a war-scenario (a war against your own people-when politics go for interest of one group...) both bio-weapons and gas are highly unpredictable and of limited use...

However "the west" "living with the virus" seems to accept over two million excess deaths per year, millions of long-90% chronic (so virus still in host) CoViD cases...

I am not sure what to think about this.  Seems legit.  But last time they were concerned, they were building extra hospitals and closing things down so if they were really worried why would they stay open?  Also, Japan doesn't usually hide things from us so why aren't they saying more?

What is everyone thinking on this?

roni3470,

IF China would run into over a million new cases-positive tests-per day (China definition of a "case" is a symptomatic case...so that number will be lower) can they test/sequence all/a lot of those cases ?

Denmark may be the only country willing to pay for testing allmost all cases=positive tests. Once the UK did manage to get 50% of positive tests sequenced-to find out what variant was spreading...Most other countries -at best-did sequencing under 10% of positive-tested cases...Both testing and sequencing decreased...

So-what do "we" expect China to do ? Daily testing of hundreds of millions, a million+ sequencing ? "Otherwise they are hiding info" ???? China even today may be doing better then most western countries that claim the "pandemic is over" (with US-XBB.1.5 spreading from the US into Europe...).

It would be very welcome if China could maximize testing, sequencing and be open about it...However maybe the main problematic new variants may NOT come from China...most other countries manage to do even worse...

Another point is testing & sequencing should not stop when they now find ONE CoViD-variant...It is very likely the "variant soup" could result in people catching a mix of variants...

The "needed info" may be very hard to get...does not need hiding...there are limits to capacity for testing and sequencing...(and a lot of countries are on the wrong side of those limits...).

Covid cases in China touch 900 million - study

BBC News

Some 900 million people in China have been infected with the coronavirus as of 11 January, according to a study by Peking University.

The report estimates that 64% of the country's population has the virus.

It ranks Gansu province, where 91% of the people are reported to be infected, at the top, followed by Yunnan (84%) and Qinghai (80%).
...
China's central Henan province is the only province to have given details of infection rates - earlier this month a health official there said nearly 90% of the population had had Covid, with similar rates seen in urban and rural areas.
...
Last month, China abruptly abandoned its zero Covid policies. It also reopened its borders on Sunday.

Official data shows five or fewer deaths a day over the past month, numbers which are inconsistent with the long queues seen at funeral homes and reports of deaths on social media.

In December Chinese officials said they planned to issue monthly rather than daily updates on the Covid situation in the country.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) said China, which stopped reporting Covid fatalities from Tuesday, was heavily under-reporting Covid deaths.
...
International health experts have predicted at least a million Covid-related deaths in China this year. Beijing has officially reported just over 5,000 deaths since the pandemic began, one of the lowest death rates in the world.

DJ, It would be welcome if the bbc provided a link to the Bejing University study...

DJ, again-based on published numbers

China 4,3 deaths per 100,000

US 4,5 deaths per 100,000

The problem is people no longer have ANY reason to trust their government/politics....

Is China hiding something nasty-maybe they are...the "west" may have lots of "nasty" and looks the other way in denial....
