When the pandemic begins, people will most likely go into "extreme isolation".  People will lock themselves in their homes as if the Devil himself was at the door.   I believe that virtually nobody will go to work.    People will remain in absolute isolation.   There could be a lot of violence if people started to get evicted, so I really don't see that happening.

I do think we will see a lot of looting in the streets.  The best idea is to stay indoors.   If you live near a pharmacy, you can expect to see some action, so to speak.  Every pharmacy in the world could  be damaged or destroyed.  People will need to get their prescription meds and their lives may depend on it.   This will cause every pharmacy in the world be an epicenter for riots.

As long as people remain in their homes, they will be fine.  The types of goods that will appeal most to the looters will be found in pharnacies and grocery stores.  That should keep them busy for several months.   We may see buildings burning in the streets so be prepared now.

Buying preps and remaining indoors for a long time is really the best strategy.

Albert...if your typical family has not prepared for this..they will not be able to stay indoors..

I took my kids to their curling lesson Wednesday night and looked around at all the people there and watched...and wondered how many of you have enough food to last a few months or even days in isolation..

Now I could be wrong, I live in a retirement community and yes these elderly people will need their meds, but when they shop at the grocery store they purchase enough for about 2-3 days and then go back out again..It is a combined social life, grocery trip...

As I have stated before in the 1918 pandemic..yes people where quarantined and lot of them starved to death...

It is really difficult to say what will happen....I guess this is the part I really don,t like to think about...but I am so gald I am in the know and have prepped the best I can...

has anyone given any thought about what they are going to do if they are forced out of their homes ?  what if a very large gang is marching towards your home, looting  & burning everything in sight , can you get out & where will you go ?

I really don't think people will be hounded by bill collectors because THEY TOO won't be going to work or will be ill with the flu.  I really am not worried about banks taking people's homes from them because they will be too busy caring for themselves and their families.

I don't think you really have to worry about gangs in the streets too much.  We will have a huge military presence in the streets.  Our military will risk dying from the superflu like they risk dying in wars.   The flu will not deter the marines. Believe me.   I also think that we may see some rolling blackouts at times, but I think they will manage to keep  the power on for the most part.

I'm betting that our strongest trait as a race will protect us.  I think our human resiliency as a race wil rise to the occassion and we will eradicate this thing under 12 months.

The key is to continue prepping to ensure that you can make it that long.   A lot of people may die of starvation long before then.  A year is still a very long time.

I have to question whether there will be a huge miltary presence in the streets.  Sure, places like L.A., Chicago, Atlanta, NY.  And maybe smaller cities like Tampa, Tulsa, and Denver. But many of us live in smaller towns, 20 or 30 miles outside of these larger cities.  My town has a population of roughly 20K, and is 20 miles north of Tampa. Maybe a dozen cops on the force.

I seriously doubt the marines, or the national guard, will be landing here.  Unlike New Orleans, after Katrina, cities will be filled with people.  Could a thousand extra guardsmen make much of a difference in New York City?  I doubt it.

Federal and State resources will be severely stretched, and they will be placed in the largest population centers. They will have their hands full.

Smaller towns will be on their own.

i think you are giving to much credit to our gov't.  the one thing that struck me watching oprah was the breakdown of resources.  even if the usa gets thru this we rely heavily on the rest of the world.  i have no idea how much this country has in reserves, but i would imagine if this thing takes us 12 months to conquer, it would take other countries longer .  we are a nation that imports everything, and i don't mean just tvs and sneakers.  i think if the bf really hits and hits hard, it will take quite a while for things to get back to normal and  the reality is most people are kind & honest, but  there are great #'s of people who will take advantage of this situation and create havoc.

If the BF goes H2H and becomes pandemic there will probably be a total breakdown in central government - Our elected 'leaders' will become quite consumed in blaming each other and trying to cover their own asses.  They will be overwhelmed very quickly and they will throw money, resources, military etc. first at this and then at that - usuallly late, and seldom accurate.  There will be gridlock in Washington.  Real power will slide further down the scale and will be used by some and abused by others.  Depending where you live will in large part determine how you live.  Small, older established communities where people know each other will probably fare best.   The people will band together for the common good and share resources.  Some small towns however will become subject to power hungry idiots that will want to confiscate what you have and declare hoarding as illegal and the community will take on a mob mentality.  Would not want to be in that small town.  Surburban and urban areas will be the most vulnerable.  People will not know each other and will therefore be distrustful and prisoners in their own homes sitting with their weapons and waiting for the 'criminals'.  I'm sure there is some justification in their concern as there could well be roving bands of desporados lurking about as will as the lone wolves looking for an 'opportunity'.  First pharmacies, then liquor & cigarettes, then convenient stores, gun stores, grocery stores, then private homes.  All in good time.   Just look at what happened during Katrina.  The more the breakdown in law & order and the more desperate people become the worse the situation for many will become.  Everyone should have a plan 'B' if their current living arrangements become too dangerous.  Roads too could become dangerous - highway robberies will be back in vogue.  People traveling may resort to convoys for mutual protection.  You may want to give some added thought to personal protection.  Vultures prey on the weak, not on the strong.  Someone previously mentioned perhaps finding a like minded friend(s) to link up with.  Perhaps a good idea.  If you know people in the country perhaps now would be the time to see if there could be an open door should the need arise.  If tshtf go sooner rather than later.  Think ahead - If things go bad - what is down the road where you live?  Prudent planning could well mean the difference between surviving in style or not surviving at all.  All this is predicated upon surviving the BF in the first place.  Whoee! what fun.  Laugh now - cry later.

Nothing matters - Therefore everything matters
