Russia has developed the first vaccine offering “sustainable immunity” against the coronavirus, President Vladimir Putin has announced.

“This morning, for the first time in the world, a vaccine against the new coronavirus was registered,” he said during a televised video conference call with government ministers.

“I know that it works quite effectively, forms strong immunity, and I repeat, it has passed all the needed checks.”

One of Putin’s daughters has reportedly already been vaccinated with it, despite clinical trials still continuing.

The vaccine was developed by Moscow’s Gamaleya Institute and had less than two months of human testing.

There had been calls for Russia to put off registering the vaccine until its trials were complete.

Mass production is expected to start in September and mass vaccination in October.

The institute launched phase three trials for its vaccine last week which will involve thousands of volunteers.

The drug is a so-called viral vector vaccine, meaning it employs another virus to carry the DNA encoding the necessary immune response into cells. It is based on the adenovirus, the common cold.

Russian frontline health workers will be the first citizens offered a chance to receive the vaccination, a source told Reuters.

There are currently more than 100 COVID-19 vaccines in development around the world, with at least four being in the final stages of human trials.

It would have been good if they had released information about the clinical trials so others could check the results before rolling out the vaccine.   They say it works but are unwilling to show proof of it.

In the rush to be the first (and I have seen reports about how the Russians compare this with the space race) I just hope that it would be safe...there has been too little time to show any long term effects.

The same can be said for any COVID19 vaccine in current trials as far as long term effects go unless you consider 6-9 months to be long term. Line up, take your vaccine shot and take your chances if you'r so inclined. What could possibly go wrong with vaccines being fast tracked down from 10 years to less than 1 year.

Did anyone buy Silver like I suggested February?

The fear is going to end very soon. Matter of days.

Sell the Silver and Gold. Buy airline and travel stocks. Boom times a coming. IMO

Please seek your own financial advice.

By "Boom Times" do you mean like when the harbour in Beirut went "BOOM"?

About the "fear being soon gone", I do wonder if we are getting to a stage where many people will say "To Hell with this, lets eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die"  In that situation I can see travel companies and airlines increasing over the current depressed situation, but probably not back to former times. However, others will keep up some distancing so maybe the full demand will never come back. Also the loss of jobs will stop people holidaying like they used to.

[Ps I am not directly in the investment game (I am in it through pension funds) so you can ignore any investment advice I give]
