According to the Worldometer statistics for 28th August 2020 [https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries]

Peru has overtaken Belgium in deaths per million (856 vs 852) to second place in the table (after tiny micro-state of San Marino which was in the heart of the Italian outbreak).

Chile has also overtaken Sweden (578 vs 576).

Brazil is neck-and-neck with USA  (both 558).  On current rates, Brazil will soon give worse results than Sweden, and I expect the USA to pass Sweden's data in the first half of September (remember all those who saw Sweden as a model for the USA to follow? - looks like they are following and will soon surpass.)

Also with fast rising deaths, but much further down the table are Mexico (481), Panama (450), and Bolivia (404).

Although there seem to be many places of outstandiing beauty in South America, I am glad I am not there at this time [especially as given evidence of under-testing the situation must be a lot worse than is being reported].
