Does anyone know how long it takes from exposure to be able to get a positive test?

Can you get a positive test prior to the onset of symptoms?

Theorhetically-- if we found out that one of my dd's dance mates was diagnosed today, after spending the entire weekend together in close quarters, would there be any benefit to testing dd and the other 100 dancers exposed?

(BTW-- this is not a 'my friend has a problem' thing...I just needed an example to help clarify what I am asking!)
