Trump is going live in 5 min. He tweeted and misspelled Coronavirus as full blown idiot, but his news conference starts in minutes. His tweets of praising the WHO, and misspelling coronavirus, let's all watch the nutjob. Good call to do this after stock trading hours lol

Stop it, yer killin' me!! You sure are funnier than Mike Bloomberg!! The stock market was WAY over-valued, it was due for a correction, so COVID-19 just lit a match to a mattress soaked with gasoline. (Or petrol, for our Oz & UK & Kiwi folks). We'll all prepared for a big outbreak/pandemic for many years, let's see how this goes. There are probably a ton of Americans & other nationals on holiday all over Italy and Europe, and they'll be dragging the corona virus back home when they return. Be safe, I'm watching carefully....

Pence says he's coordinating response nationally, gave summary, we're getting ready (he said) |

Actually the US is the best prepared for a pandemic or epidemic. Oct 28, 2019 Last week, the Global Health Security Index was released and it examined whether countries across the world are prepared to deal with an epidemic or pandemic. The topic was thrust into the spotlight in 2014 when an Ebola outbreak devastated parts of West Africa, killing more than 10,000 people. That prompted many other countries to boost their levels of preparation. The index analyzes those preparation levels by focusing on whether countries have the proper tools in place to deal with large scale outbreaks of disease. Measured on a scale of 0 to 100 where 100 is the highest level of preparedness, the United States came first, followed by the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Unsurprisingly, higher income countries tended to record better scores in the index. https://www.statista.com/chart/19790/ind...-epidemic/ Unsurprisingly, the United States is the most prepared country to deal with epidemic or pandemic like the mysterious Coronavirus, that’s according to the Global Health Security Index. The United Kingdom came second with 77.9, followed by the Netherlands with 75.6. https://ceoworld.biz/2020/01/30/which-co...ronavirus/ |

I think that study is ridiculous..
" US ranked #1 in 2019 Global Health Security Index #1 in early detection and reporting #2 in rapid response" HAHAHAHA. We are not testing!!! No one has asked the question why so few tests! 3 tests last two days!! TOTAL US! |

Appointing Mike Pence, who left Indiana residents in a toxic mess
Mike Pence Ignored A Lead Contamination Crisis In His BackyardIndiana didn’t take serious action on East Chicago’s lead problem till the vice president left the governorship. Last December, East Chicago Mayor Anthony Copeland wrote a letter pleading with then-Indiana Gov. Mike Pence to grant his city, which is facing a lead contamination crisis, an emergency declaration to allow it to address the problem. Pence said no, suggesting the $200,000 in assistance the state had already offered to help the city relocate affected families and administer free lead testing would suffice. Pence’s successor, fellow Republican Gov. Eric Holcomb, disagreed. Last week, in one of his first executive orders in office, he issued a declaration of disaster emergency that paved the way for additional state and potentially federal assistance for the struggling city and tasked Copeland with providing a written assessment of what resources the city will need to help its residents by March 5. Deborah Chizewer, a law fellow at Northwestern University’s Environmental Advocacy Clinic who has been assisting East Chicago residents affected by the toxic, lead-contaminated soil, said Holcomb’s action was a welcome change from Pence’s response to the crisis. “I was obviously very disappointed that Pence didn’t give this situation the requisite level of attention,” Chizewer told The Huffington Post. “I don’t think the state has done enough, but I was very pleased to see that Holcomb recognized the urgency in East Chicago that remains.” The situation in East Chicago dates back at least to 1972, when the West Calumet housing complex was built on the site of a former lead refinery. Concerns about lead in the soil in the area began around 1991, when the state first began testing East Chicago children for lead exposure. It wasn’t until 2009 that a 322-acre area, including the complex, was declared a Superfund site. Testing of the area’s soil first confirmed to residents last year that it was contaminated with both lead and arsenic. Cleanup of lead-contaminated homes in the predominantly low-income, minority-populated city began last summer. Section 8 housing vouchers for residents affected by the city’s plan to demolish the complex were distributed shortly thereafter, but many residents have struggled to find alternative housing using those vouchers. According to CBS Chicago, some 157 families of 332living in the complex have yet to relocate as of this month. The city’s lead crisis was the subject of a longform HuffPost video, titled “Dear Mike Pence,” released last December. In the piece, East Chicago residents living inside the Superfund site’s three impacted zones express frustration that it took health officials so long to make them aware of the dangers of lead in their community. One East Chicago resident, Mauro Jimenez, described to video producer Matthew Perkins how the EPA visited his family’s house about six years earlier. “They came here and took samples out of my yard,” Jimenez told Perkins. “They never did say for what. They never sent it to me. They sent it to me this year, giving me the numbers of lead and arsenic too. Why did they hold that information from us?” Jimenez, along with his wife Sara, is a homeowner essentially trapped in the affected area, unable to sell his home due to the lead. “In good conscience, because they had small children, I couldn’t even sell them the house because we’re all contaminated here,” Sara told Perkins. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said no blood lead level in children should be considered safe. Exposure to lead has been linkedwith developmental delays, learning difficulties and other problems. Since the HuffPost piece was filmed, advocates for the residents say the situation has gotten more serious. The Environmental Protection Agency discovered elevated lead levels in the drinking water of 40 percent of area homes that were recently tested. The EPA advised residents to use water filters. That’s also the advice that Marc Edwards, a whistleblower in the Flint, Michigan, water crisis, offered for residents of the Indiana city. Edwards told HuffPost the city should also recommend that residents living in homes with lead pipes switch to bottled water, implement lead-corrosion control strategies and remind children to wash their hands to reduce their exposure to lead dust and soil. A city spokesman did not respond to a request for information concerning the city’s action plan on lead. An Indiana Department of Environmental Management pointed only to the text of last week’s emergency declaration in response to a request for additional comment. For her part, Chizewer hopes the state may move to provide water filters to residents to help them reduce their exposure to lead, a problem she admits will not be an easy or cheap fix. The ongoing crisis in Flint, to which some have likened East Chicago’s troubles, is evidence, she says, of just that. “It can’t be fixed overnight,” Chizewer said. “This is a cleanup of hundreds of properties. It’s going to take years, but I hope there is a concerted effort to clean the properties up as quickly as possible.” |

Pixie will he be exposed he is always exposed he is the President of the United States with liberals biting at his a$$ everyday. He is doing a great job even with them at his butt. Look do any of us know how bad this will get...NO! I have been preppeing since 2006 and NOTHING has happened where I need to use any of my dehydrated or freeze dry foods!! Even in 2009 I we never SIP and that was to be really bad. So for 14 years I am prepped and nothing has happened and that again may be what happens.
NOW all of you want President Trump to have a crystal ball and tell us what NO ONE has been able to do in the 14 years I have been prepping. Give me a break! This poor man is dammed if does and dammed if he doesn't on anything he does!!! |

What FACTS what do we have that is concrete other than 80% is a mild cold and 2% is deadly but no one can confirm that. Trump had some impressive people with him and working on the Covid19. If they lied to him and us shame on them let's face it none of our Presidents are doctors so they depend on what information they are given.
Again let's not make this political it has nothing to do with this virus. Pixie...give me the facts that this is going to community spread and when! |

Flumom, don't put your life in anyone's hands. Not Chucks, and definitely not mine.
We all play our own hands here. If I listened to everyone who gave me advice in life, well, not even sure I would be here. I love chuck lol, but I need data on things (outside of China) before making a decision. I watch my own back around here. I may be cynical, and get it. Still don't even understand the mutation / variant emerging in Iran with a 14% CFR and potential global catastrophe. Either way, do as you please. Trump praises the WHO, and that rich spoiled brat will be taken care of. I only believe data. |

I agree that is why my basement looks like a grocery store. But why do we have to call my President every name in the book because he is not saying what people want to hear...if Obama said the same thing they would say he was wonderful.
I have never put my life in anyone's hands including a doctor. I was having a hysterectomy, open on the table when they thought I could have ovarian cancer. My docs partner said let's close her up and have it tested...my doc said you want to get killed we test it now and get the doc in from another hospital one of five who could stage me to the operating room ASAP. My doc knew I would have had their heads if they had closed me up and I had to be reopened if I had had cancer. Luck no cancer! So never doubt I do what is best for me. My doc knows I give no quarter! I have a reputation where I live people call me a Pit Bull. |

Let's say an extra 150,000 die each year due to coronavirus. Not sure how comparing the death rates matters with the flu as it still another 150,000 dead each year, along with the flu. It's still an extra 150,000 deaths each year at best.

Saying it's like the common flu that kills 20,000 Americans each year, and this new one may kill another 150,000 each year, not sure how that can be discarded. And that is your best case scenario.
I get it. Lives lost on this one do not compare to the lives lost with the flu! How about 20,000 each year die from flu and now an extra 150,000 die each year added to it? And that's the best case scenario. |

I agree but none of us knows if it will get that bad. How many times have we prepped up Albert and nothing has happened??? I can count 2 times if I remember you know better than I and NOTHING came of it. I agree this is different but until we get there I figure it will be the same and I will have a ton of things to use up in the next 2 years...which I will do.
If it happens that this is bad no one including President Trump will stop this not the CDC not the NIH we will not have a vaccine, which some here will not take because vaccines are bad, until 2 yrs from now. We have a long row to hoe! |

Viruses are non political, they simply don't have the capacity to care about politics. And if you think big government of either the democrat or republican variety is efficient or any different from each other then you haven't been paying much attention to history. This virus has several anomalies up it's sleeve making it rather sly and it's still mutating. The only thing you can do is hope for the best and prepare for the worst and time will tell which way it goes and act accordingly.

Disclaimer: I am NOT a Trump fan. Indeed, I was a happy camper when I got to feel the Bern with the Nevada primaries! However...
The United States’ lack of preparedness which is being exhibited for this virus would have happened under Trump — and Obama — and Bush...it is a systemic problem, not related to one man in one office alone. This illness isn’t a missile, so the Republicans didn’t give it much thought. It’s not a social justice concern, so the Democrats didn’t give it much thought. The CDC has had its funding cut time and time again and has been limping along as best it could, trying to sound the alarm. It still is — standing alone, getting NO support from WHO or the president, plaintively trying to communicate through the media that people need to wake up, smell the coffee, and get ready. NOW! But, will people look up from their phones long enough to hear them? Will the politicians stop arguing long enough to do what is right and help prepare the people of this nation? Perhaps I’m a cynic, but I don’t think they will. I don’t necessarily blame Mr. Trump for that on an individual level, but I do hold him accountable for being arrogant and ill-informed as the leader of our nation while we stand on the brink of a crisis. However, I hold the rest of the politicians he is arguing with accountable as well — Republicans AND Democrats. The people need information and strategies to protect themselves, and our government is failing them so far at every turn. |

Am I allowed to change my mind? People will get sick and die, but they won't drop dead in the streets like on the made-for-TV movies, FluMom. No hoards of screaming zombies, breaking into people's houses. That stuff is all made-up nonsense. The fact that this disease is so mild works against diagnosis & contact tracking. SARS was such a severe illness that we were able to track down EVERY case, and stamp the virus out of existence. MERS is similar to SARS in that respect. As far as the politics, this always happens with public health. AIDS was described as the "gay disease" at first....I was screaming blue murder at the time (our university helped identify the viral cause), since AIDS was similar to Hep B (blood-borne), and it ends up transmitted through gay sex, straight sex, rape, drug use etc. I even predicted "blood used as a weapon," and sure enough, some idiots would stick others with needles & vials of blood, and perps would spit at police etc. FluMom, I've gone through FAR too many outbreak scenarios to be intimidated by this damn little corona virus. People are hoarding masks....well, that is hurting our hospitals and first-responders. Masks are useless for this illness unless you are in a clinical setting. People should just calm down. It is already a pandemic, as Albert points out, they just haven't named it as such yet. When they use the P-Word, the stock market will probably tank even more. Protect your investments and get ready for layoffs in industries like travel. If you work for an airline, God help you. All for now, be safe. Some of us on AFT will catch this and die, but not all of us. Study how to shelter-in-place, learn social distancing, and WASH YOUR HANDS! |

He's pissed at them for constantly lying about him and I don't blame him. He's done more for this country and been more transparent than any president in my lifetime. He didn't wait until the last minute, I've been reading of plans they were making from the beginning which is why I knew this was different. That said, I was a bit disappointed in the news conference. Praying Trump gets re-elected because no way would we have a chance with the dimocrats in control!!!! |

Just being realistic with the numbers, G! SARS-CoV2 will devolve into a community disease, much like influenza (in that, Pres. Trump was correct). It will circulate widely and cause death primarily among the elderly....I'm really amazed that it hasn't impacted the young at all, and hope this keeps up. Please realize that, many times, the viral infection is not the killer. Rather, it is the secondary bacterial infections that set in while the body is weakened from fighting the virus & the lungs are full of liquid and dying immune cells (aka "food"). I haven't read the autopsy reports yet, but I am certain that is happening with lethal cases of COVID-19. If you are over 50, well, you are a senior and nature has you in her crosshairs. You could be taken down by influenza, Legionnaire's Disease, bacterial pneumonia, sepsis, all sorts of stuff. This is a cruel, nasty virus, but far from being civilization-ending.

The problem with America is that it's just not testing people. For all you know you already have community spread. America has only tested 425 people so far, and that's only in 3 states. It's ridiculous. Italy is testing like mad and publishing their results. America will come out of this very badly because they have no public health care system. When a man was just billed $3500 for a Covid 19 test how can you possibly expect people to come forward and declare their symptoms? It just won't happen. You'll get families hiding cases and hoping that they are mild. Without a public system there'll be no tracking down of contacts or family members to quarantine them or test for asymptomatic super spreaders. There is no way a country can cope with this without a public health care system. As for Trump, personally I think he's hilarious. He's like a living breathing caricature. You couldn't make the stuff up he tweets. I enjoy him from a great distance and I'm glad I don't live any closer. I think he's delusional and doesn't have a full grasp of any situation and he really REALLY shouldn't be in charge of nuclear weapons. People aren't stupid and you just can't keep saying "it's great". Eventually even the dumbest of people will realise that it's not great, it's far from great. And by then it'll be too late. You just wait until the really poor people - the one's who voted him in - find themselves needing intensive care with Covid 19 and not having the insurance to cover it or the money to pay for it themselves. What will happen then? Revolution?

Well I think it is great and Trump is Great. I am not dumb. The poor people have jobs now and are making better money than ever. No one in this country is ever turned away from a hospital. I have no idea where non U.S. and U.S. citizens think people do not get health care...they do. You could walk into any emergency room in the U.S. and you will be treated! They guy that got charged 3500.00 for a test was because we take care of the poor who pay NOTHING! So please do not judge so harsh from so far away.

I don't think you are dumb, FluMom, quite the opposite in fact. I have a stratospheric IQ and yet I got done by a conman once.
I think Trump is a consumate, billionaire level, conman. No, no one can stop this virus. But there will be a vaccine in 18 months time or so. The less people who the disease spreads to before then, the less will die. So slowing the spread is vital. The USA is not doing particularily well at that. Yes, Trump gets blaimed for LOADS of stuff he has no control of. But a bit more facts in his latest announcements instead of just repeating the word Great in a variety of different sentences would be helpful. While we are on the subject, he is himself a great blaimer of others. Unlike the Pelosis of this world, I don't think him responsible for everything and he does get some things right. When I do so, I say so. But this is not the time for bragging and complacency, that works on markets and people not viruses. This is the time for emergency action. A proper Tzar - not one more job heaped on his second in command, giving more funding to the CDC - he cut their funding recently! Putting in some free healthcare, enough to catch cases - no more if you feel paying for the poor and needy is wrong, but they spread the diseases they catch to those richer folk too. The right action now could save thousands of lives. IMHO Saving just one would be a good enough reason to change tack. |

I notice that the announcement of the "Unknown Origin" (ie Community Spread)was timed to be just after the conference. Since the hospital had been concerned for a week that he had COVID-19 and CDC took several days to test / or announce the test, I am smelling some sort of programme to delay bad news. I guess it would not have looked so good for Trump if this had been announced before the conference. [As I said on another post, I am not blaming Trump himself for this, most likely it was people around him trying to keep up his image.]

"So slowing the spread is vital. The USA is not doing particularily well at that."
I wouldn't agree with this, though things could change quickly. According to my sources, a massive amount of work is going behind the scenes. It's been going on for well over a month, it's just not posted on twitter... I think you are going to see the greatest health care system in the world, along with the most powerful military in the world, band together and show the world how emergency management is done. |
