A Statement from ACEP President William Jaquis, MD, FACEP:

Today we received word that two of our ACEP members are in critical condition as a result of COVID-19. An emergency physician in his 40s in the state of Washington presented with symptoms consistent with the COVID-19 syndrome. A 70-year-old member in New Jersey has tested positive for the virus. I am deeply saddened by this news, but not surprised. As emergency physicians, we know the risks of our calling. We stand united with our colleagues and our thoughts and prayers for a full and speedy recovery are with each of them and their families.

This was not what I wanted to see when I woke up this morning. My daughter works in a very busy ED in Jacksonville. President Trump declared today a national day of prayer. Please pray for the safety of our healthcare workers fighting on the front lines. 🙏🏻😩

I work in healthcare with kidney failure patients (extremely immune compromised) and we're almost out of hand sanitizer and masks at work. I've been trying to alert people for the last few months, and thankfully some of my coworkers listened, but most didn't. The company's response has been pathetic - we've been provided with one N95 (we're wearing surgical masks right now) with a promise of maybe one more, and we're to wait for corporate to tell us when to use them.

We screen the patients in the lobby now and check their temperature, and the employees have a temperature/symptom log we sign every morning after we check ourselves. I've prepped for a long time, and I pretty much know what to expect as this progresses (domestic travel bans, store closings, quarantines and lockdowns) but this really has me spooked. The street outside should be filled with stall holders and customers as the Farmers Market sets up, but there's nobody. The street is deserted. My local store is closed too - they changed their hours form 5am-1am to 8am-8pm. I'm prepped and I'm scared. I can't imaging how non-preppers are feeling right now.

I work on an EMS helicopter.  We’ll be transporting Patients in the near future I suspect. Normal PPE. Of mask gloves goggles and gown.  More than a little worried about the confined space ( about the same as the inside of an SUV )    Currently have a limited supply of N95 masks.  We’ll see where this goes.  Strap yourselves in and stay as safe as you can.

If they're not scared then it's because they don't understand the gravity of the situation. I'm also scared too. We were doing our calculations last night and it might mean we'll be without an income for 4 to 7 months. That alone is scary without factoring in the pandemic too.

Those who got it wrong, for whatever reason, may feel defensive and retrench into a position that doesn’t accord with the facts.

China's approach to coronavirus prevention is worth learning from.In daily life, wear mask, wash your hands frequently, disinfect well, and wear gloves for some activities. Now i have some factory resourses to get the N95 masks and other protective equipments contack me.
