PetitionRestore COVID-19 wastewater monitoring in England

Wastewater testing for SARS-Cov-19 (COVID-19) virus, authorised by the government and implemented by the Joint Biosecurity Centre, Defra and the Environment Agency, that had provided an early warning system for virus spread, has ended in England. It continues in Wales and needs to resume in England.

Continued evolution of #SARSCoV2 means we must remain vigilant, we must maintain surveillance, track & assess the variants so that we can be agile in the response. We need to track burden, and in particular #Long COVID, hospitalisations, ICU and deaths… https://who.int/activities/tracking-SARS-CoV-2-variants

DJ, For the WHO the "emerging" part- being "new" is over for CoViD...the WHO did warn CoViD STILL !!! is a pandemic...

It is a failure of politic(ian)s to act as if "there is no pandemic" ,,,because they ended testing...

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

What a waste of time and energy! And tax payers money. I'd be furious if they were wasting my taxes monitoring waste water. Covid is everywhere, we've all had it and no one needs to know any more about it. IMHO.

Those who got it wrong, for whatever reason, may feel defensive and retrench into a position that doesn’t accord with the facts.

Of course you could test waste water for more than "just" CoViD ! Besides that-sequencing the detected virusses could help to estimate risks...Waste water testing is much cheaper than putting up test-centers to go for massive testing...Waste water testing also is an early indicator...testing before massive spread...

We may disagree on this...but that is OK !
