European Union population:   447.7 million  https://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/documents/2995521/11081093/3-10072020-AP-EN.pdf/d2f799bf-4412-05cc-a357-7b49b93615f1

USA population:                      331.6 million  https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/us-population/

So direct comparisons do not really apply here.  However:..................

European Union deaths:         219 228        https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=coronavirus+deaths+europe

USA deaths:                            230,316        https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6

......   'And even more worrying for America:.............................

US shatters daily coronavirus record with nearly 90,000 new infections

Country surges past 9m cases as experts warn death rates could more than double by mid-January   https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/oct/30/us-daily-coronavirus-record-cases-deaths

..................................  'And of course:................................

US sets world record for coronavirus cases in 24 hours

[I have some respect for John Hopkins, but they are not the only information source on the planet and a rolling average of 1 week's cases is only part of the story.]

Well given the EU (excluding the U.K) has almost double the cases per 100K as the US and yet isn't double or 1.5 X's the size of the US that clearly indicates a larger rate of infection in the EU. Are you disputing that is exactly what the graph depicts or are you saying the information the graph depicts is wrong?

Bad COVID management and leadership by the 27 countries that make up the EU perhaps. That graph clearly shows the story as it stands now. Nothing else to the story.
