I agree with this that the office for national statistics is a great resource.... I also like graphs, I think you can see things more clearly. I found it interesting that Omicron death was highest in aged 45 to 64 on the graph shown.

* I feel a lot of the newspapers aren't doing a good job. Or actually is it they are doing their job amazingly! As the aim is to confuse us all!!! Lol... If freedom ever did exist in journalism it just doesn't anymore! I do try to avoid most Newspapers and social media.

Maybe we should do a list on the 'safe' and more reliable sources?? Or is one already here 🤔

Littlesmile, maybe the way we deal with info should be more cautious...The BBC can be a good source, CNN can...but you need to balance it with lots of other sources and info.

If the claim is "Omicron marks the end of the pandemic", my question-list explodes...since there are 3-4 subvariants of Omicron...wich one would "end this pandemic"...and why ????

Did we not see these kind of "hopium-claims" before ? A virologist may be an expert but not an epidemiologist...know a lot of virusses but less of epidemics..Politicians making all kind of non-sense claims do that to get votes most of the time...

Science switched to twitter, but has also lots of contradictionary studies need te be put in the right perspectives...Immunity after infection may offer more protection then vaccines would do-but for how long and against what ? Does that mean vaccines do a lesser job in general ? The picture I get is vaccines may offer better "wide range" protection...immunity after infection (and immunity has many aspects) may do better-with some variants-against infection with the same kind of (sub)variant...However lots of stories about people allready catching Omicron twice...(wich is remarkable since this variant has been around for only a few months..so maybe the virus was hiding...some tests failed to detect it-a positive test may indicate not reinfection but the virus was still there...).

Even "good sources" may have "bad info"...It would be welcome to see a list of 100% realistic news...But since "news"need continuity sometimes "no news" become "news" by lack of real "news"...my opinion...

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

Thank you Dutch Josh. Yes I think your right a good mix of information is probably the key. All sources is better than only one... I haven't got a twitter account but will definitely be setting one up. I'm probably missing on alot!!

Getting Omicron twice really is remarkable! Extremely fast!

It's all about interpretation isn't it? I honestly think you could give 10 journalists the same info and you'd get 10 wildly different articles written. I doubt we'll ever truly know the real numbers of deaths from Covid. Even now they say that the Spanish Flu in 1918 killed between 20 and 50 million people. That's a wide range.

Those who got it wrong, for whatever reason, may feel defensive and retrench into a position that doesn’t accord with the facts.

Interpretation on the effects of pandemics goes even "more wild" then numbers on people dying from the Spanish Flu...some historians go to 100 million based on statistics/calculations of population in colonies in/from those days...There was not much of a basic civil administration of births and deaths in many places. Historically that was a job churches did (it did bring money...).  Most governments had an interest in knowing "how many soldiers" could be raised...

One can discuss wether https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roaring_Twenties or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roaring_Twenties was related to shortage of labor-resulting in better salaries; increased prosperity, had to do with the high number of (most young) people dying from the previous Spanish Flu.

Excavations in England did discover relatively "good" farmhouses dating from after the 14th century plague. Workforce was that limited landowners had to do their best to get people working the land...resulting in better housing...

The economic growth after the pest-pandemics (several waves over the centuries) -was spent in more wars....'can't fix stupid" is a red line in human history...

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.

It seems like humans are in a constant loop of denial and money making. If that doesn't work then war is the answer! Its like madness really!.. When will we learn from history, learn from our mistakes and actually fix things properly. I thought sticking a plaster over a problem was a new concept but obviously not 🙄

Littlesmile,

I don't think we learn because the fundamental nature of humans cant change so we will always make the same choices and decisions in the same situations.  Probably why history repeats itself.in cycles.

Don't.matter how progressive people think they have become  what is the first thing happens at the hint of a petrol shortage....queues with people  filling tanks up...Gone is the ......"oh I better take just what I need and leave the rest for the poor people behind me".. ......Hell No ..we stuff our tanks full until the fluid is trickling down the side of our cars, and at that point we whip out our petrol cans, and start filling them too,   while other wait, fuming but ready to do the exact same.

I think human nature and behaviour is like the Mississippi river, you can bend and shape it, but apply enough pressure it will spring back.   There is biology and behaviour science behind it but too complex for me.

I may be cynical and wrong, but I see what happens when bread runs short, or even toilet paper....we become quite feral again.  Probably a few of us would even growl.

I was.in a shop when some guy started pulling things off the shelf and being abusive talking to demons..suddenly the other shoppers  moved straight towards the 2 big builders standing.in line,  left the skinny student group in the other line.  No one noticed but I did and found it interesting. First sign of trouble off we trot to people who look like they are physically strong.

Anyway gibbering on.

Concerning misinformation, main problem.is now in science There is too.many preprint articles surfacing.  Without being peer reviewed I could.present.any old data.

Hx

That made me smile :-) And it does make perfect sense that layers would come off and basic human nature would set in. I guess that's what the scary part will be or is should I say.... Here the biggest denial is from the churches. The very people who swear to protect and are so charitable. They are campaigning that this is only an 80+ virus and doesn't include everyone else. Do they not matter? Will it next be others that they point out?

My nephews school is also riddled with covid (think all schools are). It went from a handful of cases last week to over 70 this week. The schools can't close and the only protection anyone has is relying on parents to test there kids. Which of course they are not doing. Do teachers deserve this treatment after caring for your kids day after day?

I would really love to here from someone that studies human nature. To tell me please what the heck is going on!! lol

In a word, denial.  And all it's cousins: obfuscation, deflection, projection, trivialization and rationalization.
