Think this can be phrased in a way that it won't trip any wires.

Sure, that many of you know I am "writing a survivor's guide" for the coming Pandemic. Some may be wondering. What happened?

Well, it is this way. Much like when I was young and found out the real deal, there is some soul searching involved here. I have not done this in a long time - this is a 2 coffee read maybe - maybe only a sip. Depends But here is the deal.

First, personally since I joined this site more than a year ago, things have changed. There are a few very active users and people who have become active - well in their own way - but basically - the Pandemic never came - like people sitting on a mountain top waiting for Jesus (yet).

And interesting psychology is if you say something enough it loses its impact.

Fact is, at first we discussed whether the virus could or would mutate.  It has and is spreading. Secondly, there have been low path cases in the U.S. and no big announcements on this. That is not to say it is cloaked very euphemistically in main stream that Avian in other forms is in the U.S. and Britian - especially U.K. - the news has been slowly leaked so the net reaction of the public is near apathy.

There is more interest in tabloid movie stars and Oprah and talk shows and reality TV than whether Avian mutant virus or other viruses sweep the U.S. One too many blaring headlines.

I notice. Like here Once upon a time a news story could hit on here and you would have 25,000 reads. When we did Nepal, long ago, it was franctic. Posting - etc. Well, Nepal hasn't gone away. In a recent call to Vietnam we have 19 provinces infected and there have been little human to human hops with little notice.

So - and with the kind permission of the host here - what happened to the writing about Survival in a Pandemic.

For one, what will be done (as in CDC drills - government exercises) is fairly severe. We are talking quarantine,  troops, and a lot of fatalities.

Read the U.S.A. Today paper yesterday and guess what - suddenly we have 50% + more deaths in New Orleans the past year because there are less doctors after Katrina. Well.. writing on the wall here. What happens when they padlock the hospital doors and government buildings?

Now, we mustn't mix up those of us who are making an effort to get the word out there with the extreme extreme ones. In fact, the extreme extreme ones muffle the voices of those basing things on facts and real numbers.

It is like publishing an Avian book which is fiction. One health care person told me, making it fiction makes it non-effective. Makes it Steven King. Makes it the Stand. People don't take it seriously.

Many have wandered away or have there shelves filled. Now it is community time. Time to convince the grasshoppers, ant style, the winter is coming. Vaccines rot. Well, there are more euphemistic terms, but getting the government to shell out billions for vaccines which are dated and then are not used and must be thrown away is a losing Senate floor deal.

So, in the midst of writing, and this is up for discussion.. that's why it is being posted here. No name given - no link - just talking - the problem is it will be MUCH WORSE than I thought.

Was trying to put out a book that TPTB would not be concerned about. Nothing alarmist. Nothing scary. Just an informative prep thing. Well - then I started getting numbers. 15% CFR - law enforcement collapse.

Death of the main working class 2-35 - a large percentage. Whose going to hoof down to work to pay for grandpa's social security which is in major trouble. I posted up somewhere recently that what would be the net effect of 100,000,000 North American deaths or 1 billion Chinese deaths.

Well, with Dengue at 40,000,000 or whatever - this is not out in the ozone. It simply, like the slaughter house you don't go into before you munch on your Big Mac, is something most people aren't informed on. It is like a tour through the hot dog factory.  It is like Fast Food Nation.

It is like China Syndrome before 3 mile island.

We sit on a ticking bomb and most simply would rather not be bothered or if bothered would cause amazing problems in the economy.

There was a time when I was truly concerned about people defending their food stashes against armed gangs and crazy people. I always avoided this area - basically saying.. well follow your local laws about prepping defense wise.

Then I realized.. you know.. there may not be a lot of people out and about perky enough to raid anything. The streets may be "The Stand" empty.

It is a curious exercise, honestly, when we face 1,000 Katrinas there can be no effective plan.

So - back to writing for those who will be SIP'd and will make it. Many have stopped telling friend, relatives, children - it is coming. And why suffer abuse and laughter.

Someone will be out there helping. Those that survive. I have a real gut level feeling they are here and also check out various locations on the net.
Is it getting worse. Yea - it's not going away. It is mutating. Yea, it is. It is getting meaner, and tougher, and those plans - well - the big ones take money - and when that jet comes rolling down the runway and it starts -
then it will be taken seriously.

Mediclian I feel just like you said I tell everyone and they got blinders on or something. I could stand in the street waiting for a car to run me over and they just don't care or get it. Like their emotional systems can not handle the out right truth of a pandemic. And for some its like they just can't relate to what a pandemic can do. Or they just were never informed or have family members who told their story of survival and horror of the 1918 Pandemic. Well I for one have a Dad who mother died when he was 12 and he kept pictures of fields of white tents of sick people cause the hospitals where full. He as a surviver only 12 went to work bringing water to these sick patients. The true life experience will live on in him and all our generations to come. We like 911 will never forget the horror and the survival skills my Dad taught us to carry on to the next generations to come. Pandemics kil, their fast, they bar none and they come in the night creep up on you and kill everything in their path that don't prepare or be aware. A word to the wise take what Avian Flu Talk concerned and dedicated people have to say. Prepare.
It is not just a way of life for us. Its a concern for mankind to survive. This isn't a day at the park. Something we want to consume our lifes with doing research reaching out to others. It's something we must do its the only humane thing to do . It like teaching a child that a hot stove burns. They don't know till we teach them. And yes they may resist, or think otherwise but when the time comes they thank us. For caring.

You may laugh at us. Think we are nuts. But we are the ones who hopefully will survive to help those who just wouldn't listen. Our gift to man. Caring. So whats so bad about that.

All those who think that we are just a bunch of crack pots with nothing to do your wrong.

The word is;

PREPARE NOW WE HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE THE RESEARCH OF WHAT A PANDEMIC CAN DO.

Do like we have done don't shun away the people here.
Look for yourself. Learn become educated. Take a stand.
Help yourselfs. Prepare for the Pandemic Now.

PrepGirl

Sorry if I was long winded. But it comes to a point when you just can not understand why people don't want to help themselfs.

Mediclian great post!!!!

Very good post. I have given up telling friends and family. They do not want to hear it and I no longer care to discuss it. I continue to build up my stores and stay vigilant. With world news as it is, there could be any number of national emergencies. It's a secret that I keep and only share here on these pages. I'm grateful to all of you for being a safe community to share with.

I find the only ones paying any attention (other than government officials) are medical people, scientists, researchers, some military and a few brave souls who post on the boards daily. It is pretty difficult to comprehend esp at a severe pandemic level.

I think Im one of those who has given up telling others as I feel it is beyond their comprehension and the reality is they dont care anyway. If they are vaguely interested the usual response is "I heard they are developing a vaccine." I cannot waste my time anymore and I cannot give them any definitive information on what and when it will happen. I simply cannot describe the volume of mounting evidence we encounter that indicates this disease is rapidly approaching.

Good post Med. I think the media blackout is partially responsible for the overall lack of reaction. There havent been enough deaths to cover international news stories like this. And when there are enough deaths it will probably be too late.

And hopefully some of us will be writing historical accounts of how we survived the coming pandemic.

To all those who contribute - thankyou. I have never been more aware of any threat to us since the H5N1 virus started. The more I hear and read and follow, the less I like the sound of things to come. Occasionally I have days of 'yeah right nothings happened ', but somehow I am drawn back again and again . I HAVE to check , I HAVE to know ,I WANT to know. I have also tried to warn people ,close friends and family but most are fairly blinkered.I feel they think I'm obsessed or mad but something niggles. A gut feeling , a sixth sense, women's intuition, I don't know, but I hope I am as ready as I can be and I don't see this going away so I keep on prepping. At the moment the thought of what happens afterwards is too daunting. The more that can be published and put out the better. Some of us are listening!

I feel that the time has come for those of us who are aware of the coming catastrophe to make a strong attempt to let the rest of the world know what is coming.  As far as we ourselves are concerned, the more people who are prepared, the better off we are.  Thinking globally, the more people who survive this pandemic and consequent likely collapse of society the better our chances for regrouping and starting up civilization again.

To this end, a new group is forming, composed of anybody interested in flublogia.  The intent is not to take over from other forums, or run them.  The purpose is to act as a coordinating center for a concerted education campaign.  The site itself will be as simple and easy to use as possible, for those newly coming to the internet to find out about panflu.  Some basic information will be given, with links to the existing flu websites where they can find the wealth of information that is available.

Great post Medclinician. It's important to have dialogue. It helps us all stay sane and focused on the seriousness of keeping our preps complete and ever increasing.

Miss Muriel (possible troll): Avian Flu Talk is so aware of the "coming catastrophe" that's why this site is here, for all of us to learn and a place we can direct the curious and those who need to get started and have many questions. AFT will answer those questions. Avian Flu Talk is not a blog, a one-way conversation, but a dialogue with a collection of substantiated information and conversation with folks and what they are doing with their preparation plans.

Avian Flu Talk is the only proven coordinating center education campaign. This "new group" needs to join Avian Flu Talk where there are committed members watching the development of H5N1 and other mutations. Where folks have already developed working programs in their communities. Where Avian Flu Talk has already had proven written and public announcements warning of the Pandemic Flu, remember not if, but when.

If you have some constructive ideas that would be useful for AFT why not make those suggestions rather than start with another group. United we may make it, divided we will all fall. Stick with Avian Flu Talk and bring your new group here.

Thanks Annie.

Hi Muriel, we appreciate the offer and we've tried many similar things over the last year and a half. Unfortunately we will not be able to forward people to your new discussion group at this time.  We wish you and the blogs the best of luck in your endeavor.

Also, not that it matters, but Avian Flu Talk is not a blog.

First, it helps to know that others understand the situation where you can see plainly we are headed for a lot of grief in the Avian and the disease world, and find it frustrating when others - and sometimes quite passionately show no interest - or sometimes pretty aggressively tell you to not talk to them about it ever again.

When those people, are those you love, friends, even sometimes your own lover or spouse, it is painful. And it is important to know that other intelligent, rational, and informed people, including TPTB know we have a problem.

Reality check. Those of you who spend a lot of time and sacrifice researching and trying to help prep and warn others who simply feel it is not real - are not wasting your time.

In the movie "The Day After" as a husband was trying to get his wife to go to the cellar before the nukes hit, she had out her vacuum cleaner and was fiercely cleaning the house. His wife was singing and mumbling on as the missiles winged their way closer.

Another one liner - which I think .. (I like one liners because people remember them and they say a lot in a little)   Don't panic, prepare.  M.C.

Just that. We still have those and will have those who in the midst of a Pandemic are vacuuming the floor and to accept the fact we are at 6 and have a problem.  I have a feeling we are going to have some who simply glare at us and tell us "you wanted this to happen so you would be right."

Nope. Don't want it happen. Don't care about being right. Would rather be wrong and have millions not die.

When TPTB get worried. Be concerned. It means that information is known more than is commonly known for them to be worried and that they are forced to release information, even though it will scare people, to avoid a worse scare and reaction.

Try to enjoy your life day by day. Thank God (if you so believe - if not thank nature) for what is wonderful and (just my HUMBLE advise) try to find some peace and happiness in the midst of all this doom and gloom. We need to stay informed. I love my family. I want them to survive.  I am pretty sure I am not alone in this.

We strengthen, help, and inform each other. There are no "qualifications" for that. Thank you for that, and I hope I can, we can, continue to support, comfort, and encourage one another. Because, when it happens, that will be all we have left to pool all our talents, abilities, and all of the love we can find.. to survive.

Last week I was garage sailing with my daughter and son-in-law. I bought a nice backpack and my son-in-law asked what I needed a backpack for. My daughter laughed and said "She saves them for the bird flu thing" He laughed big and gave me a look like I was crazy. I am collecting these for individual bug out bags and there will be one for him. I don't care anymore who laughs, or who knows, or who cares. I KNOW. I CARE. I PREPARE.
